Yea, if you're afraid you cant see..... DONT DO THIS. You really cant. The only reason I left it on there is because on my ZL1 bumper I have some super bright fog lights that are just as bright as headlights. So im ok without headlights. But I wouldnt recommend it to anyone but someone who uses their car as a show car

I just did the same to mine over the weekend. Think I'll add some red pin striping to the outside of the wheel later on. |

I did some Plastidip. One tip I would like to add is I put the spray cans in a pot with hot water and let them soak. Then when I was ready to spray I shook it up well and it came out and spread like butter. This forum has helped me soooooo much.

Tried some plasti dip on a few different Camaro items
I recently tried some plasti dip on a few different Camaro items...I even used the carbon fiber kit to see how it looked. Not too bad for the first go round, but will try again on the engine cover.

How did you do your bow tie? Did you mask off the chrome or just spray it all and peel. I see how to do it with wet coats and peel after the last one with tape, how long do you let it set if your not masking? Thanks!

I just masked off the chrome (didn't try it with no masking but I guess you could do it that way)...I did like 4 coats total, let each one dry 10 mins before the next coat and then peeled off the tape carefully right after I finished the last coat

Where did you get that piece that makes it look like carbon fiber?

has anyone used Mineral Spirits to remove plasti-Dip? it says to use that if the can gets clogged. I've also got a stubborn area that is hard to peel off.
I'm wondering if mineral spirits is safe for the Paint and Clearcoat on the car? |

Looks to me like no-slip shelf liner material. You can get it at Lowes, Home Depot, WalMart, etc. Never thought to use it for something like this though. Pretty clever.

Two sites that might be added to the original DIY (post #1):
www.plastidip.com - the original website for the material. You can't buy it here, but they'll tell you who the official authorized distributors are (Home Depot, Harbor Freight, WalMart, etc). Since it's the official site it also includes all of their materials, suggested uses, MSDS sheets, etc. www.dipyourcar.com - Doesn't appear to be affiliated with the Performix sites, but is a site dedicated to PlastiDip and related/supporting products and specifically geared towards automotive uses. Looks like a lot of other materials that might be useful, but I haven't used any of them so use at your own risk - I can't make any recommendations/warranty of the products. |
