Super Charger Belt Tension On A Lsa 6.2L SC Chev Crate Motor
I have searched the internet, called my local& afar Chevy dealers, Chevy part outlets and can't seem to pin down the recommended factory tension when using a manual set tension pulley instead of a spring loaded tensioner on this separate belt. A few have stated to start with a reasonable amount of tension and if it starts to squeal under load, keep tightening until it stops. I ran across a forum that one of the members installed a LSX Concept Heavy Duty Race Drive System for the Super Charger: it has a special tool for one of the pulleys to torque it to a 100 foot lbs. The member indicated that the longest part of the belt gave no deflection when pushed on it; he never posted back if the high torque affected anything. I would like to have it pretty close where it should be as Chevy's break-in procedure wants a certain number of 40% and full throttle runs to 4000 rpm within a short time it is on the road. A good load on the belt will rise as the Super Charger builds boost and really want to avoid any stops in this run-in period.
Appreciate any help |

Anywhere in between the 2 marks if this is the tensioner you have. Outside of that, I would assume a belt tension gauge less than a 1/2" deflection would be the target. I’ve not seen a non spring version used here on the forum... -Don
