Keyfob programming issues

I've read many of the threads on how to program a new keyfob, both for "spare" keys, and for "new/replacement" keys.

I bought a pair of key fobs off Amazon that came with a "blank" key in the switchblade part of the fob.

I was hoping to be able to just swap the blades and program the new keyfob, however after switching blades and going through the programming sequence, nothing worked. The only thing that works is the original key blade in the original fob.

Do I need to get the keys "cut" to match the original before I can program them? If not, how much will a dealer charge to cut the key blanks? And will they force the "recall" on the keyfobs upon me?

Might be the key fob, some don't even come with electronics and need to be transferred from your old key fob. If you have a link, might be better, they made same type fobs for many gm vehicles. I think dealers will let you sign a waiver to keep old key fobs. The FCC ID on your cars key fob needs to match the FCC ID on new fob.

no fcc ID on the new fobs, but purchased them from here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Can't even read the fcc ID on the old fob...

I did check the innards, and there is electronics inside.

That's the correct FCC for my fobs. Everything I read, you take key off old fob, put it on new fob, put good key in ignition, start car. Turn car off, put new key in, start car.

I need new fob, one the buttons pushed through and was looking at same fobs on Amazon. Hope you find a solution. Keep me updated. To read the old FCC ID on my fobs, I had to use camera on my phone and take picture of side of fob, writing was so small, but was able to see ID

This is the type of fob you need

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got the pair for 22 bucks a year ago. I see they cost more now, but they work great. Took them to a local lock smith shop and he cut 2 keys for 80 bucks. Took like 10 minutes for the cut and program of the keys and 100 bucks and i had 2 new working key fobs.

I currently only have ONE working key/keyfob set. Only got one when I purchased the car. Want to add a second and third one. (Only lock/unlock work on the one I have, so I'm hoping a new FOB will allow all buttons to work.)

Did you replace the blank keys in both new fobs and both don't work? If you only did one maybe you fubared it replacing the key. Get the key cut on the other new one and see if that one will work.

Maybe you are at the limit of, I believe 6, keys and remotes programmed.

The car was delivered with 2. If the recall was done the FOBs remain programmed and two more keys are added. Now you have 4. If a key was lost and replaced that's 5. Replacement remote or another key, 6.

Only the dealer can clear the missing keys/remotes. Bring all your keys and remotes with and they will add those back.

As far as the dealer "forcing" the recall on you;

I had three working switchblades. My dealer called and told me my new keys were in. I brought in the most worn out switchblade. They neutered it and programmed the two separate keys to my Camaro. Then they could satisfy GM that the recall had been performed.

So now I have two working switchblades, two separate keys, and one remote without a key. I actually like having the separate keys as they are easy to put on a key ring. One I keep in my pocket with my other 'normal' keys while I use a switchblade. This way I always have a spare with me.
The other separate key is paired with the neutered remote and kept with my other spare keys in a lock box.
When I go to the dealer for service they don't care if the switchblade is in the ignition. To them the recall has been performed. They think it is as silly as I do.

No, the new fobs came with blanks, haven't had them cut yet, as I only planned on programming the fob and swapping blades with the one that partially works now. It would help me rule out an issue with the fob and the remote start/trunk/panic buttons not working.

I did take the fob to autozone and they have a tester there and it's receiving a signal when I hit those buttons, just not sure it's the right signal.
