Has anyone replaced the serpentine belt?
Has anyone replaced the serpentine belt? Did you replace it yourself or did you have a mechanic do it? How many miles did you have on the car? What was the reason you replaced it? The belt on my car still looks good but I am just wondering how long it should last.

Belt should be good for 100K. I plan to replace mine at that time along with the spark plugs, hoses, coolant, and trans fluid. All general maintence. Sometime next summer, as I am at 77K right now.

It's very easy to do yourself. If I remember correctly all you need is a 1/4" ratchet to release the tensioner. Remember the belt configuration to get the correct pattern.

They have come a long way since 1979, I believe the Mustang was one of the first to have the serpentine belt, the first that I had ever seen. |

I bet if you spend ten minutes looking at your motor, you will decide to do this yourself. Doesn't get much easier than this. Only thing easier is filling it up with gas.

I keep a spare Gator Back Belt in the spare tire well in the trunk,JIC it breaks while I'm away from home. I bought it on AMAZON.com for about $15. 1/4 inch ratchet is all you need to put it on.
