Header install

2011 camaro ss auto, resonator delete, half magnaflow mufflers. I live in georgia so must keep catsfoe emissions but want to install longtube headers with zoomie cutouts, can factory cats be moved back to accomadate this or should stick with short tube headers? Would o2 sensor stay in cats or in headers. Where would the zoomies install? Thanks for any help you can provide

Most long tube headers offer a choice of high-flow cats or off-road connection pipes to connect to the stock exhaust. They will have bungs for the O2s.
Shorties use your existing cats.
Cut-out are usually installed in the cat-back between the connection pipes and the resonator.
With long tubes you will need a tune to disable the delayed O2 response that comes with moving the sensors. Otherwise the CEL will come on and you won't pass emissions.

If I understand correctly from everyone shorties will not give you any power gains over stock manifolds. Where as long tubes have some to give. Not sure if thats why your getting headers but just a thought.

Short tubes will have some gains at low RPMs, save some weight, change the sound, and reuse the stock cats. They are less expensive, do not require a tune, and are 50 state legal.

I would recommend a long tube with high flow cats. The stock cats are one of the biggest points of restriction on the exhaust system. Getting rid of them adds volume and HP.

Thanks for your responses, I think long tube with high flow cats will be choice, boy do the cats drive the price up. Was thinking this would be the first step for more horsepower before throttle body or injector upgrades, Get it breathing well first. Any other ideas on first mods are certainly welcome, thanks

Skip throttle body or injectors. Those are unneeded as first mods. You won’t need injectors until you’re over 500whp, and shouldn’t ever need* a bigger throttlebody. The stock one will support over 1200whp easily. After headers and hfc, a tune will wake up the L99. You can shed weight for free and then work on getting power to the ground. If you’re not wanting to get into the engine, suspension parts, a high stall converter and diff gears will do wonders. Otherwise, after headers, a nice cam and head work are your next biggest gains.
