Paint or Caliper Covers

Okay so I have talked to my local paint guy and to paint my calipers red it would be $100. Caliper covers are $200 from rpi designs which I like. So which would be better? Getting the calipers painted or getting Caliper covers. It will be February before I do either but need as much input as possible! Thanks again C5 members!

That's a tough call on a V6 car. I'm not a fan of Caliper Covers, it's like totally fake and seems pointless, but to 80% of people, they may look cool. A nice red paint job that is CLEAR COATED so it looks rich and glossy would be my advise. You could do it yourself for $30 in supplies, so $100 isn't that bad. Be sure to post pictures when you're done, red calipers should look good behind those black wheels.

PS. If you go with paint, I'd have him paint the back sides of the pads as well (not just the caliper - you know) so you have the biggest looking brake "assembly" possible.

Aren't the v6 calipers smaller and not Brembo's? Maybe that is what thkfast is referring to but, I really don't know what calipers come on a v6.

To the op, I would paint them yourself and save $$$$$ but, the $100 price is a good price.

I vote for paint. Personally, I'd do it myself, but $100 is a good price considering the labor involved.

V8s have nice big Brembos, the V6s have regular looking rotors. That's why.

I think caliper covers look cheap and junky, but I dang sure wouldn't pay somebody $100 to do it for me. It's easy, paint them yourself.

Here's a nice how-to thread.

Paint. Takes a few minutes each wheel if you want to half ass it, cover/tape off the rotors and then paint em. Takes like 20-30 each side if you take your time, sand prime then paint. Ill be doing that again as well when I'm doing my summer wheel and tire change over.

IMO on the V6 the caliper covers might look better and beefier than a painted one.
As for painting it, its easy as pie if you want to do it yourself, maybe 3 hours tops if you include the cleaning and prep. I did mine 3 years back and its holding up great. G2 paint FTW (under $50) for a full set

Here's pics from when I did mine

Just say no "caliper covers"

I have seen them painted and that is allot better than covers. For me the covers looks like something you would get from the Walmart automotive section.

Is he painting them or powder coating them? If he is powder coating them I would have him do it, not sure if that price includes him taking apart and putting back together the caliper for the coating process. If it were $100 to paint them, I would pull them off and tape them off nicely and paint them myself with some red caliper paint for under $10 and have the satisfaction of doing the job myself, then treat myself and the wife to a nice dinner or some more go-fast parts with the remaining $90

Either way you choose, I'm sure they will look nice. And like most people stated, I personally wouldn't do covers, to me they just look cheap and out of place. That's just my 2 cents.
