Lifting 2017 Camaro on a lift without jackpads is it possible?

Lifting 2017 Camaro on a lift without jackpads is it possible?

Seems a little nuts to have to spend $130 on jackpads, when I can lift any other car for free?

there are other “pinch weld protectors” that you can use temporarily on each corner, but none that I’m aware of that attach permanently like the ZL1 add-ons. The lack of easily accessible and useable lifting AND jack stand points on the car is definitely one of the 6g shortcomings.

You dont' have to spend 130.00 on jack pads or frame rail adapters.

I and several others have used the 4 - 12.00 frame rail pucks from Amazon and they're just fine.

they're not pretty anodized alum and able to stay on the car, but I'm not paying an additional 100.00 for that.

I made my own frame rail jacks by cutting slits into pieces of wood. It worked well enough to get the car on jack stands. DO NOT do this if you're intending on getting under the car without jack stands.

The ZL1 pads are for the track rats who are jacking up their car all the time. An appropriately thick chunk of metal with a groove cut in it will work fine for the rest of us.

Got a piece of scrap crating wood (already has a U shape channel cut into it) from Lowe's. Used a hand saw to make a deeper cut and cut it lengthwise to fit my jack. 5 Minutes, $0 to make.

Before I bought my pucks, I just cut a piece of 2x4 about 4" long and cut a groove down the middle of it about 3/4" deep. Worked perfectly with my floor jack, but I wouldn't suggest doing that if your using one of the cheap floor jacks with the 2" lifting plate. You probably want a jack with a nice 4"-5" lifting plate to distribute the pressure on the 2x4.

honestly, if you're just getting a service done or something similar on a lift, the pinch weld is not going to bend under occasional use, even without a pinch weld protector. They're more than strong enough. It's when people are using a floor jack and jacking one side up then the other and putting extra lateral pressure on the pinch weld that you run a risk of bending it.
