2021 SS 6 Speed manual question
I am having my 2021 black SS 1LE delivered today. Does the manual transmission still have that 1st to 4th gear shift that i felt was really annoying back on my 2013 SS? If it does, is there anyway around it? If i remember right, if you were going 15mph or under it was impossible to shift from 1st to 2nd Thanks for the help

yes, still has skip shift. And you can still buy the eliminator to cancel it. Put one on mine at first oil change.

they're around $15-20. Don't know about install. Did my 2010 myself, 2013 ZL1 and this one dealer tech did it during oil change. google 2016 camaro skip shift eliminator and a bunch of vendors will come up.

I've had 2 M6 Camaros during the past 4 years. I never shift below 19 mph. I've hit the 1-4 maybe 3 times in that time. Pretty simple. A lot of guys have the gizmo. I just never liked installing inline electronic stuff. Not knocking the eliminator.

I purchased the eliminator for mine, but haven't installed it yet (if I even do). I think it was around $20-30. It is simple enough to do yourself so no need to pay someone. I never realized the car had it until after I had purchased it. The skip shift doesn't come on all that often, which is why I may not even put the eliminator on lol.

Just give it more gas and shift at higher rpms and you won’t need a skip shift eliminator. I have only had it happen to me in my ZL1 a couple of times in the year since I bought my used ZL1.

I've had the 6-speed in 4th, 5th, and 6th gen Camaros, and imo the skip shift function has become less intrusive with each generation. It was a royal pain in the 1994 Z28 and bothersome in the 2010 2SS, but it rarely kicks in with my 2016 2SS, to the point where I purchased an eliminator early on but never bothered to install it.

Crawl underneath and put it on. A bit of a pain to get your hand up there to unlock the clip, but doable and worthwhile. Did mine in my garage the first week of ownernship.

I would live with the M6 before you purchase this.
A little behavior modification and it rarely intrudes. Shift 1-2 at higher rpm. I think you have to get up to like 20 mph in first gear. Not at all hard to do and also feels right with this car. On the rare occasion skip shift blocks 2nd gear, train your brain to shift to 3rd instead of 4th. Once you get used to that it becomes second nature. |

I usually just shift 1-3-5. 4th is kinda tall for low speed shifts and bogs a little.

I've been used to it since '96. If I see or feel it kick in, I wait a sec and go straight to 3rd, doesn't bog down like going to 4th. Been doing that for so long with all my previous GM 6 speeds it muscle memory.

You can train your brain 1 of 2 ways: 1) Always hit the skip shift and hate the car until you install the gizmo 2) Make some minor shifting adjustments and forget about it. Spend the $20 on beer. |
