If use paddle shifters can you switch to auto drive without stopping?

Hey guys,

I have never owned a paddle shift car (referring to an automatic Camaro)

from research I know you can drive the car in manual mode without using the paddle shifters which is sport mode...

but if you were to use a paddle to pop into a couple gears on the highway but get tired of it. can you simply paddle over to D or S?

Of course you can....chev would sell none of this if you had to stop and warranty costs would kill them....

once you are in S and change gears using the paddle shifters, hold the right shifter for like 3 seconds and you will be put back into S mode

If you are using the paddles, move the stick into D. Then right back into S, if you want the automatic Sport mode, sans paddles.

Easy peasy.

What would break? It's hardly any different than holding in the paddle to return to sport mode. And immediately dumping it into 5th or 6th gear.

Not like it is two different trannys with two sets of gears. All sport mode does is give a little firmer shifts and holds the revs a tad higher.

Quite tame and lame compared to getting your tranny tuned so that even D is way better then the stock sport mode.

I use my paddle shifters all the time, sometimes when I want to pass and not want to rely on the trans automatically kicking down I just use my paddles and kick it down to the gear I want and away I go.....just love doing that.
I rarely need to even put it into S mode, but sometimes when I am on the back twisty roads and am feeling like I wanna have some fun, I will for sure put it in S mode and have at it, it is a blast to drive that way especially once you learn the ways of the paddle shifter lag timing.

This is a smart car. I won't let you do anything that might tear up the tranny. Go ahead and experiment with it... get to know your Camaro!

Experiment is exactly what I need to do. I've just been too chicken to do it and if the wife's in the car, I sure as heck can't do it - she'd freak out & think something was wrong with the tranny. I need to find an empty road somewhere...
