Question

Would someone kindly educate me... on the Borla website they indicate two systems - the "S" Type and then just the "X" Pipe.

What's the difference, which one would give you better flow and power?

It looks to me like the "S-type" likely doesn't have a resonator where the original resonator(s) are on the OEM exhaust, and probably comes with mostly straight-through mufflers (i.e. like the XR1s). I think, if you're familiar with Borla's "Stinger" exhaust from the 'Vettes from a few years ago, this would be along the same lines. It's less expensive than the "X-pipe" so I'm pretty sure this is as close as we can assume at this point. The images are generic so that's no help either. Summit has some nice prices if you're in the market, IMHO.

I just added the ARH headers and with high flow cats on my L99. I love the sound, but I know know why the L99 has the large resonators. It is to muffle the sound of the cylinders activating. Anyone modifying the exhaust of an L99 might want to consider what this sounds like. Unfortunately the way the car is set up there are times when the car is switching from 4 to 8 cylinders frequently. I have not had a chance to drive the car much since adding the system, but it seems like around 45 mph the RPMs drop to about 1000 and the cylinder deactivation kicks in and out often. Frankly I think GM needs to make some adjustments because at 1000 rpm the engine is so lugged down that it runs rough. Anyway, under these conditions the popping/cracking of the additional 4 cylinders firing does not sound right and gets annoying.

I had my stock mufflers removed today. Going with straight pipes and 5 inch tips no mufflers. Will have the pipes and tips added next week.

Here is the video.
