Long tube headers installed! Now what?

Well my TSP long tube headers are installed and car is tuned! Only 1 minor issue. I had flowmaster exhaust on it before. I didn’t want it too loud so on the shops advice I put factory exhaust from high flow cats back. I didn’t realize that this exhaust came from a convertible which means L99 not LS3 which means large resonator in front. The shop says this is robbing me of approximately 10-15 whp. What are my options? Cut the resonator out? Get and X or H PIPE? Do a different cat back system? Thank you!

I think that 10-15 is a high number.

Jegs has a nice 409 stainless x pipe for the camaro. Easy to install also.

One of the best sounding cat backs for these cars is the Corsa system... The Borla Atak system is also really nice. These are easy(everything in the box) type systems. But if the car is at an exhaust shop, why can't they just mock up a system for you?

^^^ As stated above, if the car is at the shop, if they know what they are doing, they can cut the big resonator out and fab up an x of h pipe for you, and be done with it. If not, then Summit Racing sells a "Tru-Flow" non resonated x pipe, I had one before I went to the Corsa cat back..

Super easy to have any exhaust shop cut out the huge factory resonator, and weld in a generic x-pipe, with extra piping to offset it to your liking/preference. I don’t know where the best place or what dimensions of x-pipes would be best, although I do know that certain brands like BBK and Borla, have pre-made x-pipe mid pipe assemblies. You can simply cut from after the j-bends past the cats, and the cut right before the frame exhaust hangers, located right at the rear axle differential.

I would preferably go with the mid pipe x-pipe assemblies, as they have better flowing x-pipes, it looks like; not to mention the piping is already pre-measured and set up to fit and be either clamped or welded on, without much issue(s). Do note that they’re usually NON-resonated; so, you might wanna look into maybe going with a mid muffler of some sort. Dual inlet/outlet mufflers of any kind will work; just depends on the sound/tone you’re after, since Magnaflow for example, offers an x-pipe mid muffler (common upgrade).

I would also have some small glasspacks or resonators welded in, if you end up wanting to still quiet down the exhaust system. I have 1-7/8” long tube headers, with off-road connections pipes, a non-resonated Borla Atak x-pipe mid pipe, and a Borla S-Type axleback setup. It’s a bit raspy up top after 4.5-5k+ RPM, but nothing super crazy. Just know that good quality, fiber-glass packed mufflers and resonators, will do the most work, as far as quieting down the overall exhaust..
