What Is Your Preferred Media for 6 Gen Content

All, I've seen it mentioned more than once that this forum is "dead". That is really sad to me but I would like to see more technical content. My favorite three are; DIY, Bolt-Ons, and Forced Induction. What is your preferred media? If you have example links it would be appreciated. I primarily look here and at the Jannetty Facebook page.

It’s always been car forums for me. Starting from LS1.com, then LS2.com, LS1tech, Camaro5, and now Camaro6. I think for a while now Facebook groups have been taking over but they’re all over the place 30 different groups for the same or similar thing no single great source like a forum, content is super random.

I think CAMARO6 still has plenty of great content, but def seems less active than in the past.

FB is probably more active but also more immature and less factual.

FYI helpful tip for searching old threads, Google "Camaro6" + whatever question or topic you're interested in, typically good results.

I’m 39, as a teenager getting into cars and motorcycles forums were the source of any technical information. Nowadays this is the only forum I’m on. I was really happy to see this one as active as it was when I first bought my 6th gen. Everything else I primarily use fb groups for info.

Car enthusiast hubs have really fractured in the last 20 years as social media has diversified. Camaroz28.com and ls1.com were the "height" of Camaro forums in the late 90's. Forum membership seems to be declining overall...people pop on to ask a question and then disappear instead of stick around to be part of a community. And a lot of people just want to argue and lob insults versus actually talk tech and cars. The other change is a lot of people seem to want answers, nicely written "how-to's" with photographs, taking all the risk and uncertainty out of their projects. Long time ago, seemed like there were more people taking a risk and trying something for themselves when there were no answers or write-ups.

No surprise when there has been no significant new Camaro vehicle content since 2018. For new owners, most of the relevant information is now only a search away, and the platform is moving ahead at a glacial pace now, driven only by the aftermarket.

I've been a member of Thirdgen.Org since 2001. I've seen the rise of Facebook decimate forum activity, BUT, I've also seen it galvanize the "true believers" for lack of a better term. In the thirdgen community, FB really took a lot of traction from the forum, but FB is a disaster, both in terms of discussion, maturity, knowledge, etc. etc. It's great for pretty pictures. Our forum polices behavior AND the accuracy of information being spread. It's pretty strict, but that's why people like it.

Forums also have a structure more conducive to group participation across multiple topics. FB is all about what's new, -which of course, is what the algorithm wants. LOL! Seriously though...there's no benefit to FB to have someone helping someone else. It just wants to pump out more content.

My local club forum had a lot of participation long after a lot of us "settled down" and got married, had kids etc. etc., but we all kept in touch on the forum and kept talking shop, even though life had changed and we didn't really function as a club. Some of the younger guys suggested a FB page. As the founder, I said no as it would kill activity. They did it anyway. Club was dead two months later.

I’ve been meaning to start a thread about how dead this forum has become. It used to be way more active but it seems like only a handful of people are on it these days. I find it kind of sad as this forum has been my go to.

As others have mentioned FB groups seem to be pretty active. I think partly because you don’t have to physically create an account and login. You just request to join the group.

Because of how easy it is to just post in those groups a lot of useless threads get started (not that that doesn’t happen here as well) and there’s also a lot of arguing and name calling in those groups. Much more than here.

All that being said I’ve found the 6th Gen 1le group to be extremely useful.i have my theories on why I have found that group to be more useful than others but I will keep those to myself. I have had questions answered in the regular 6th Gen group as well but I see way more repeat/useless posts and arguing in that group that I don’t really check it anymore.

Although the forums don't tend to be as active as they once were, they are still my go to resource when I get a new vehicle of any kind. It started with motorcycles, then trucks, and now sports cars. Still members of all the previous forums (probably a dozen or more), although I don't generally visit the old forums after I part ways with a particular vehicle.

I still find the forums a great option to research common issues, popular mods, how-tos, and I've had good luck with the classified sections.

I will say that some of my closest friends are ones I met on local forums years ago. I don't see those types of personal relationships developing as much now, but I don't know if that's a change in the forums or just my stage of life.

I still use the forums. I will also search YouTube videos. I will look at the Facebook groups for cars or parts for sale but a lot of the comments over there are trash to say the least.
