Unfortunately my dealership was again unable to determine what the problem is and returned my car as is yesterday. However they did add a dye to the coolant that would become visible in the exhaust system if it were burning it internally.

I am supposed to drive it as much as possible over the next few weeks and monitor the fluid level. If it decreases I bring it back and they check for traces of this dye in the exhaust system.

The whole thing is becoming pretty frustrating since the car only has 6K miles on it. I am also very nervous about them having to take the engine apart if it does prove to be an internal leak. I have never had a problem like this before so im not sure what to expect.

I thought I could smell it in the engine bay when it overheated. I'm still driving it and waiting for the level to decrease.

I don't smell anything in the car.

You can have the oil analyzed for traces of antifreeze (see BlackStone).
Check all of the coolant hoses that they are seated properly - I noticed just slightly loosening the clamp on the top hose at the engine would cause a spray of coolant. I moved the clamp "ears" around as one was chaffing the small coolant hose running on top of it.

Heater cores are starting to leak causing problems for our drivers,, Not only is it expensive to fix it can also be dangerous,, Imagine you driving at a certain speed and you son or wife is on the passenger side and you son is wearing sandals or your wife is wearing heels and she screams in pain and scares the hell out of you and you lose control on the car and crash? Not very safe.. or your driving and the window keeps fogging and you can't see and you crash.. you over heat and break down somewhere and your car won't start and your in the middle of the road and some drunk a- hole hits you... Right now Chevy has issued a recall for out damn key.. because we can hit it with our knee cause the car to turn off and us losing control... sounds like the same thing if you car shut off from over heating and i have never heard of that problem,,, please file a complaint so we can all be assured if ours goes it can be fixed,, I'm starting to smell fluid and i have a 11 ss and it has 37000 miles... contact https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ and fill out the form... lets fix this matter...

of course i do. i can't put this on one thread and everyone will read it.. there was a guy on here who's wifes feet did get covered in burning hot coolant.. it stupid that they will recall a key and not the core... you will thank us if yours goes and they actually recall it .... you need to get on board...

If mine goes I will replace it. Just like anything else. If your heater core goes... it's under warranty. They'll fix it. They aren't going to recall something that doesn't represent a major potential for revenue loss. Haven't you ever seen fight club?

Engine coverage includes all internally lubricated parts, engine oil cooling hoses, and lines. Also included are all actuators and electrical components internal to the engine (e.g., Active Fuel Management valve, lifter and oil manifold) cylinder head, block, timing gears, timing chain, timing cover, oil pump/oil pump housing, OHC carriers, valve covers, oil pan, seals, gaskets, manifolds, flywheel, water pump, harmonic balancer, engine mount, turbocharger, and supercharger. Timing belts are covered until the first scheduled maintenance interval. Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are sensors, wiring, connectors, engine radiator, coolant hoses, coolant, and heater core. Coverage on the engine cooling system begins at the inlet to the water pump and ends with the thermostat housing and/or outlet that attaches to the return hose. Also excluded is the starter motor, entire pressurized fuel system (in-tank fuel pump, pressure lines, fuel rail(s), regulator, injectors, and return line), as well as the Engine/ Powertrain Control Module and/or module programming.

If your car even has an extended warranty i don't know how they could cover the heater core when it specifically states here that its not covered.. maybe the bumper to bumper covers it but thats after 36,000 or 3 years.... So show me where they are going to cover the heater core.. i have the platinum warranty which is 5 years or 100,000 miles... i have to renew bumper to bumper... but my point is that some of these guys are getting stuck with a 1,700 bill on a part they have no control over.... I explained the recall of the key.. but let me tell you again.. they are recalling our flip keys because your knee can hit it and shut the car off... with is that?? are giants somewhere buying these cars and complaining about the key in mass numbers?? i never heard of anyone hitting there knee with the key.. i bet it was one isolated incident and the guy crashed and made up some b.s. story about the key and now the insurance companies wants chevy to change they key..( just sounds insanely stupid) ... Hah. I like the theme of your post. My fight club reference was pointing at the nature of recalls though. They recalled the keys because if you turn the car off and get into a wreck without an airbag and die... it's gonna cost them a fortune in a lawsuit. The heater core deserves a TSB, which may or may not already exist... I don't know.

Bumper to bumper will cover it. That is unless it was caused by doing a hose relocation. I want my crappy clutch and TR6060 replaced because the pedal sticks to the floor and my 2nd and 3rd gears grind regularly when I'm beating on the car. Design flaws happen.. factor your experience into the next car brand you decide to purchase.

I have an issue with vanishing coolant. Pressure tested okay. No visual leaks can be seen. I can smell coolant in engine compartment. You mention that you had found something and showed the tech where to look. Can you please tell where to look?
