ghost stripes

my new 11 was black with silver stripes. the dealer removed the stripes
at my request. they did an excellent job of removal and i can find no trace of
their existence. the other night (leaving a basketball game) the car was
covered in dew and parked under a florescent street lamp and the stripes
were clearly visible. so much so that for a moment i thought it wasn't our
car. i noticed them again on the trunk last night (dew covered at night).
i'm totally cool with this and consider it to be unique as i'm assuming most
owners haven't removed their stripes. apparently there is a microscopic
residue that is absolutely impossible to see except under these conditions.
i'd like to put the car under different light spectrum's to see if they appear.
my guess is they'll fade over time from waxing and polishing though i'm
hoping they don't! i'll let you know..........

this is true. i removed my stripes as well, and put on hood spears. after a few washes, it doesn't do that anymore. I've had the stripes off for almost a year now.

i've been thinking of the best way to take pix of this. i'm hoping the flash
won't wash them out of the photo. the first foggy day i'm curious to see
if they appear in the daylight. i live on the gulf coast and foggy misty days
come with every warm front that passes over the bay so i shouldn't have to
wait to long to have these conditions during the day.

Not all depending on how long the stripes has been there, but yes good waxing helps a lot

i'm actually cool with the "ghost stripes". but as intense as i am about a
clean car i'm sure i'll have them polished off in no time.

run a clay bar over it, or some bug/tar remover, and then wax.

+1 without the bug/tar remover, what you are seeing is the residual of the stripes AND some UV. Car polish should do it but you HAVE to wax after that.
