new window tint law in Ohio
I've seen many posts on here about tinted windows and there is always someone who asks, "Why is it legal for police vehicles?"
While this was a good question as of 3/22/13, the law in Ohio will change. The last section of the new law is also very interesting. 4513.241 Using tinted glass and other vision obscuring materials. [Effective 3/22/2013] · Previously, manufacturer applied tint was an exception to the window tint laws. Now, the manufacturer cannot provide to a motor vehicle dealer or to any other person a motor vehicle that violates the window tint requirements of this section. · This section no longer applies to law enforcement vehicles. · The person who installs illegal window tint is now civilly liable to the owner for any damages incurred as a result of the installation and costs of maintaining the civil action, and attorney fees.

what about the vehicles that had factory tint before this law are they grandfathered in or do they have to go pay there own money to get it ripped off when it came like that

Typically a 'Grandfather Clause' would specifically be mentioned. Working in LEO here in Indiana, I would suggest you contacting the office of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, office of the Superintendent and ask for the legal section. I know our department has troopers who have gone to law school, passed the bar and work daily on case law, passage of laws and dissect law and interpretation and can provide a formidable answer to your questions.
I have tint on my Charger state owned and my Camaro and both tinted legally with 35%. I do wonder how my visits to Ohio might be treated just I do when I go to Georgia where tint is illegal.
