I'll go with this But really any definition will do, muscle, hustle, new era performance car , whatever. The faster cars, and advertized as such, are all modern muscle cars.

Only the performance version would have met that criteria. The second one was after doing a ton of searching on car show sponsors and auto sociaties and determining how they classify our cars. Mine is heavily modified and thus would qualify for the Hot Rod division. However if it was left stock it would have been shown and judged in the late model class. This was from like 5 of the major national auto shows on their registration pages and rules for entry. No real difference was given between the v8 and the v6 thus a heavily modified v6 would also be in the same Hot Rod division.

The one thing that was abundatly clear and also was pointed out by many of the fellas here is that Muscle cars were only cars built between 1964 and 1974 without exception. No ifs ands or buts. Sports cars were not limited by model year but had to be considered light, and have only two seats.

Hope that help explain myself better..But the fact of the matter is that the more i researched the subject the more my feeling changed. I kind of felt the SS was a muscle car...but I was totally officially wrong.
Gotcha. And I agree, every car show I've gone to has put the Camaro in the Hot Rod section (they all were modded). It seems that even appearance mods will get you put in that section unless you were one of the original muscle cars. With those, it seems you whatever you do they stay in the muscle car section. Doesn't bother me, they were a different breed. All seemed to have nice big back seats to fit the family in and big doors so you could get in and out. I'm personally glad the Camaro doesn't look and feel like that, but people can still call them muscle cars if they want.

I personally think the V6 is not a muscle car...it doesnt have enough torque to be considered a muscle car...the V8 on the other hand does have the torque to be considered a muscle car

To me the term "muscle car" died in the early 70's when the EPA and insurance companies put their thumb on the big three. By 1974 there really wasn't any muscle left in any cars and by the late 70's the ratings were down right pitiful.

I always looked at the 1st generation Camaro as a couple of different types of cars. First you had the straight six cars which were just cars in Camaro clothes, then you have the base V8's (327's and 307's) which were sort of pony cars (term coming from the Mustang) and then you had the true 'muscle car' Camaro's which were the 300 hp 350 and 396's and obviously the 427's. Those SuperSports were named that for a reason, they were the top performance (Super) cars.

So is the V6 Camaro of today a muscle car...not to me, it's too new and isn't the top performer of it's model.

But really who the heck cares? The new V6 Camaro is a great car with great performance even compared to the lower SS models of the past (which were anemic in the tire and traction department). It goes to show you how our technology has advanced from 45 years ago.

Is a V6 Camaro still considered a muscle car?

When I think of a "muscle car" I usually envision something with a V8, but not sure if anything bearing a Camaro, Mustang, or Challenger nameplate (V6 included) is sufficient. Not trying to start an engine war, just curious is all.

The new v6 has quite a bit of horsepower, but not sure I would call it a muscle car. Despite what people say the new v6 is NOT faster then old V8s. I would say it's a cool car nonetheless

Start with a universally accepted definition of a muscle car, then we can figure out if the V6 is muscle or not.

Not a muscle car.

"Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high performance automobiles." V6 is not.

"The term generally refers to 2-door rear wheel drive family-style 4+ passenger mid-size cars (and, by some, full-size cars) equipped with large, powerful, V8s"

The V6 is not.
