I think they are all pony cars. Sorry but they were all and are all based on stock cars. They are street legal American stock cars and they called them pony cars. Yes they are sporty and they look like muscle cars but they are all called pony cars even till this day.

Your car is a way from A-B, if you have a new car that is better. If you have a camaro then you have one of the best looking cars on the road. This discussion is just nonsense. Driving to work or school which is most of the driving most of us do does it matter if you have 800 or 350 hp.
We all love power, but this thread is nonsense because it is title seeking without depth. 800 HP is a great number, but does it matter. We are trying to compare apples and oranges. If you love your car then what the hell does it matters what anyone on this site classifies it as? Nonsense Pure nonsense I will say mine gets along pretty good. Edit: why is mike ss always in these conversations? what has he contributed to the v6? Nothing but he is always trying to stretch his man hood here. LOL Sick of stupidity Well I guess the thread attracks it.

It depends. I had an old 69 ply roadrunner 383 cubic inch, stock 335hp and about 400+ torq. with a 3 speed auto trans. It was pretty nasty coming off the line. But with my simple bolt on mods with my 6 speed manual v6 I think I can beat it now. My Camaro is turning about 13.9 or better now. My RR was probably low 14s but yes traction issues and a 3 speed tranny was a detriment. A 3 speed auto is such a waste of energy as each shift is so spread out compared to our 6 speed which are closer together so you loose little energy between each shift and you get a lot more top end with 6 speeds. So I would say the only weak spots in our Camaros in the lack of torque compared to the old muscle cars. But my car resonded well to my simple bolt ons of axle back exh, cai and x-pipe. To be able to spin my wheels from a 7mph roll on with traction control on is no slouch. |

My understanding of a muscle car in the 1960's was a vehicle with a mid-size body complete with a power to weight ratio of 1 horse power to 10 pounds of weight. But another thing to consider was in the 1960's gross hp numbers were the norm unlike the net hp ratings introduced in the 1970's. So a 312 hp car engine produced now may have garnered a rating of 350 hp or more in the 1960's, but with a 3800 lb pound car would still not be technically a muscle car.

If a 2010+ v6 Camaro is not a muscle/pony car, than a 1993-1997 Camaro Z28 is not a muscle/pony car either considering the v6 is just as fast...

Why does anyone even start these threads? Why does everyone keep talking about this over and over? If you like the car and are satisfied with it then what else needs explained? All I know is everyone loves my car especially me and that's all that matters.

Yes it was, but you have to realize also that it was the quickest model that you could get. The current V-6 camaro isn't. it's the slowest
of the current camaros. Muscle is just that Muscle and compared to the other cars we have to choose from today it isn't the muscle car of the bunch. Nor is the V-6 challenger. Nor is the V-6 Mustang. These were called secretary cars back in the day and that's what they still are. It's just that technology has allowed them to be quicker than secretary cars of days gone by ,but they still aren't what our current muscle cars are. Sorry ,but it just simple facts. Not that they're not nice cars just the same. I would own one if I wasn't a motorhead. If you want to really get down to it though, the car in my sig is a true muscle car and is one of the cars that helped to coin the term. |
