Sales Tax for out of state buyers......Help!!

I'm having a problem/concern about when I pick up my car Tuesday.......
Currently I live in Missouri and have my 2010 Camaro ordered from MI.

I spoke with my dealer yesterday and I'm having trouble getting this through my head..... On sales tax I have to pay from Missouri state sales tax but not MI i know...... My question is can the dealer charge me sales tax for Missouri even if he is in MI?

He told me Missouri sales tax is 4.225% and I could just roll it into my loan, he also stated he would give me a temp tag to drive back on...... plus he said I would recieve paperwork in the mail to present to the Missouri secretary of state to recieve my regular licence plates in about a week after I buy the car....

Does that sound right to you guys??

he can only do it if his dealership has filed the appropriate tax forms with the government so that they may collect tax for other states (doubtful) just finance the total, when you get back to MO, go to register, pay sales tax at the desk.

I once ordered a car in TX while I lived in OK. They sent a check for the tax to my local DMV office.

Sales tax on cars is usually collected at the time of registration by the DMV.

I was thinking of doing that to save some hassle but it would be nice to finance that whole amount (car and taxs). I'm guessing I sould just sit down with them and discuss my options.

Thanks for your help!

I bought my Solstice last year in MO but I live in IL. We calculated the tax and rolled that number into the loan.
They put temp tags on it and sent me on my way. A few weeks later, I got a check from the dealer for the amount of tax I owed.
I deposited that check into my checking account.

When I went to title & register it, I brought all the paperwork from the dealer. The IL DMV calculated the tax that I owed based on what I bought the car for. Fortuneately my number and theirs were the same.

I then cut a check to the IL DMV for my tax, title, and registration fees.

That was it.

Your MI dealer should do the same for you.

I think I will see what they can do at the dealership, and how they would do it.....

Plus I dont have to finance the sales tax......we will just have to wait and find out.....

Thanks Hugass! I think I'll give that a shot. Sounds like a good deal as long as everything matchs up but it won't be a big deal if it don't.
