Just Hit 172,000+ Miles
I just hit a little over 172,000 on my 2010 LLT engine. Had a cold start last week and it finally threw the dreaded P0008 code. I've had no other serious major issues with the car. My view is that $2,500 is cheap as compared to a $600+ monthly car payment for a new car (unless it is a C8 Corvette).

I wonder if many of these timing chain failures would have been reduced by adding half to a quart more oil, as suggested here in this thread, during oil change time.

My thoughts exactly! Mine just threw the code at 172,000 miles.

All modern engines use a windage tray that keeps the oil off the crank. Older engines can suffer from oil aeration if over filled and the oil in the sump comes in contact with the crank while its running. You would have to add several qts extra to get the oil near the crank. I've been doing this for past 50 years in every car I owned, I've never had a failure do to oil aeration. I notice the oil runs a bit cooler too. Quick test to see if the oil level is too high and aerating is to run the engine until its fully warmed up then shut it off and check the dip stick. If the stick has bubbles all over it you are aerating the oil. But you won't on modern engine designs.
