I don't want to step on any toes, but an FYI I found amazon has some strong maf for <$31. Search ACDelco 213-4222 GM Original Equipment Mass Air Flow Sensor as that is the part number I was told is "Strong" for our cars.
Being unsure, I'll pick up the one sold by amazon for a little more $38 with free two day shipping and report back on Saturday.

New piece is a k20 unit in an ac delco bag. Idk if it makes a difference but will swap my "q" maf with this one tomorrow.

That's not actually true & I'm surprised that you are giving out such misinformation. Granatelli Motor Sports purchases OEM MAF's & then recalibrates them for better performance. That's why you will see the Granatelli Motorsports 'sticker' & an engraved serial number on the MAF.

First post states that GM used two different suppliers, one supplied the strong MAF, the other the weak one.

So who is the supplier of the strong MAF?

I know that Hitachi is one of the two suppliers. But I dont know if Hitachi makes the strong or the weak MAF's.

Someone has more info on this topic?

I recently had a Hitachi MAF in my hands but it had "14" on it?

Is this bad? According to the first post it is a weak MAF as the first character is a number and not a letter?

I also had a C6 Z06 MAF in my hands which only had a single letter on it.

So a single letter MAF should still be good for ~500hp then if GM decided to put those on the Z06?

The good news is that all you have to do is pull the "weak" sensor and install a "strong" sensor and within seconds fuel trim is back to 0% and MHZ are back to 1800+. This will instantly change the personality of a car as was demonstrated in the threads below.

How can I tell if my MAF is "weak" or "strong"?

It is very simple. Remove the MAF sensor from your intake tube and take a look at the code inside the indented window. Any single letter MAF is "weak" and any MAF that features a letter followed by a number like the one in the picture below is "strong".




Setting things straight

There are two points of confusion that seem to constantly come up when this topic is discussed:

1) This is a hardware issue with the MAF sensor and not a tune issue. The issue can not be corrected with a tune.

2) The "weak" sensors function just fine and are within OEM tolerances when the car remains in the stock configuration. Once additional air flow is introduced due to modifications is when problems arise. Because of that it is not something that GM will replace under warranty.
