I need to see these cars in person. I think it's just the angle of the sun.

You'll notice not everything is painted together.

My DAD was the chief inspector for 30 years for a company that made bumpers for GM and Ford. I was only a kid but I remember being in that plant watching them come out of the molds and they painted them there. They shipped them to the assembly plants painted. I really don't buy the different material explanation. I think its an application method difference even though its the same paint! Next time I see him I'll ask. Im pretty sure he'll have an idea.

Oh and its not the angle of the Sun or anything. I've seen it in person. Its reflecting light differently. Its like the metal flake is lined up in different directions or just not at the same depth or whatever.

The metal flakes not lining up or being deeper when painted is probably the difference. When painted all at one time, obviously unless the paint cannister changes mid-paint, the problem shouldn't occur. I sure hope mine matches up better than the one I saw at the dealer the other day.. It was very noticeably off and the dealer told me they would re-paint it if I bought it. They did have a $5,000 markup though so I think they don't mind paying for the repaint..lol..

Right on the money this is not a mismatch of the paint, it is the metallic in the paint causing this effect.

From different angels and lighting the metallic in the paint is going to cause different effects.

Yes its true the metal flake causes the effect but from the same angle and the same lighting they should match and they do NOT. Thats the mismatch.

Check out how the SAME front fascia, looks completely different from the top to the side of it.

Same paint - same fascia, looks completely different.

Fascia is plastic, fender is metal. IOM reflects differently from different surfaces, in certain conditions.

Fascia paint has ability to flex on the fascia or bumper cover.

This is a case of level of relectivity regarding the type of materials the paint is applied to.

It's freaky paint, I think it's awesome!

I believe this is caused more by the angle and lighting, than actually paint being mismatched. That picture for example, look more towards the front of the car, compared to the front fascia and where it meets the metal near the wheel well. The front part of the bumper in that picture MATCHES the hood, but how the light is reflecting off the car when the picture was taken, makes the other part look grossly off. I didn't plan on getting IOM, but if I was, these pictures wouldn't turn me off from doing it.

Heres a different picture I took on another IOM car myself making sure the lens was perpendicular to the line of the fender to the bumper.
