Get your LS9 Crate Engine for only $21K

press release
DETROIT — Although it was revealed during last year's SEMA show that the muscle behind the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was going to be offered as a crate engine, GM Performance Parts waited until now to announce the $21,000 price that comes along with the LS9 beast.

As the company's high-end LS-series engine, the 6.2-liter LS9 V8 is rated at 638 horsepower and 604 pound-feet of torque. It jets the ZR1 to 60 mph in a mere 3.4 seconds and doesn't quit until it hits a 205-mph top speed.

The engine comes fully dressed out of the box with an ignition system, supercharger assembly and exhaust manifolds, and those interested will have to get an external coolant tank, oil tank and a wire harness to get the thing running in its new engine bay.

The crate LS9 is available for $21,000 via most GM dealers (part number 19201990) and is covered under GM Performance Parts crate engine warranty of 24 months/50,000 miles.

or i could mod the LS3 to close to the same power for half that price, allowing me to also upgrade the brakes, suspension, etc. a lot of people underestimate the potential of the LS3.

NOTHING made today is "collectable" due to the fact things are always made better. The last collectable was the Buick GNX. Z06, ZL1....all get better with time, of course after this economy thing gets behind us. At one point we thought the 90's ZR1 and Vipers would be collectables...get a look at used prices for thos cars??

Collectable motor is the limited run ZL1 427, but they're all sold now I believe...See what I mean?

I understand what you're saying, but that's not entirely true. Anything is collectable, but few things are more valuable with time. Some things are a given, like the above mentioned 427, but the LS9, well, time will tell. A good example is the only GM built 3rd gen Camaro LT5 car in existence, and it sold for what...50 g's? That's insanely cheap! If I would have known that would happen, I would have been on the phone bidding. I would bet you that car is going to be 10x that in 20 years.
