Tips For a Newbie Drag Racer?
Today was my first day at the strip with the SS, and I should mention that it's my mom's car (I'm 27, no flames please! I drive a slow Subaru and my IROC is busted so mom and dad let me live my dream occasionally ). We were having problems at the strip at first, and I only got one run in... but the obvious problem is the 60' from what I can see.
My reaction time was laughable, but I cut a 2.6 60', a 9.0 1/8th at 88, 1/4 at 13.501 @ 109.88. Best trap of the day was 110.66. Running LS3 2SS with Kooks 1 7/8 LTs, intake, high-flow cats and a tune (423 at the wheels). I keep thinking that with that MPH the car should have high 12s in it... but then again, the last car I had at the strip was my mostly stock 94 Z28 on bald tires. The hard part with this car is that you seem to get either a TON of spin (pops took it to a 14.0 and 14.4 at 110 ) or NO spin. I launched right around 2400 I want to say, which would have been the sweet-spot for my LT1. It didn't seem to bog, but it also didn't have the power I was looking for right off the bat. What are some tips you guys have for cutting 60' times down a bit, just a higher RPM launch and rolling the throttle (basically what I've been doing)? I feel like if I had more time with the car I could do a lot better... and I want to tell myself that for my third time dragging and my first time in 3.5 years I didn't do TOO bad, but I think I'm just lying to myself. PS, I had everything off for my run... dad kept the stability, etc on. His worst run was with launch-control engaged and second in normal driving mode (IE nanny-stuff all on). Thanks in advance for all your help! I'm sorry if this should have been another entry in a duplicate post but I didn't see one that quite fit from perusing the first page and didn't want to raise a thread from the dead. \ PPS, pops was none too happy that I creamed his time. He was talking a ton of trash before!

Looks like that car is very capable of running 12's. If that 60' time was down at 2.0, that would have been a high 12 run. Keep practicing and you'll be where you wanna be.

Ranger is a legend. Never met anyone that could launch & shift as consistantly as he does except a couple guys that compete in Stock & Super Stock NHRA. They are phenominal!

ranger is superb... i always watch his videos to try and hear and see new tricks that i can incorporate and improve on. However i must say ur trap seems alil low for your mods and power level....almost seems like a stock car. Work on ur launch technique... lower tire pressure some not much though, and as ur 60's improve ur trap may increase as well... mine seems to.
