hennessey is doing a LS9 car, but to do it with the V6 is not worth it at all, you will need the bulk of the SS to handle the power, and if youre going with a $30000 engine, plus $$ for the installation, you cant start with an LT. Plus, would you trust all that power behind the regular V6 brakes?

An engine swap usually isn't worth it period. It is always much cheaper to mod the engine you have. Most people don't realize you can't just drop the motor in, you need all of the electronics that control the motor, you might or might not need different motor mounts, you might need different front suspension to account for the weight gain of the motor, you might need a different transmission, or at least a different bell housing for you current transmission, bulkier rear end... the list goes on
In newer cars, its just not worth it. Old school cars sure, but like I said, it's much less of a headache to put some FI on the motor you have. |

in this case, your best bet is to buy an SS, swap in the LS9, swap the front fascia to that of a v6, and pull the SS badges off. reason being, the v6 trans and rear end (not to mention brakes) are not up to par for the power output of the LS9 (or the LS3 for that matter)

i dont know about the rear issue, but i'd assume brakes could be changed with the engine swap. from what i see when check sites the rear end for the v6 is similar to that of the v8. Where am I wrong?

I'd buy a 1SS and change fascia and remove SS badging all over the car. You'd spend far more than the price diff between a LT and 1SS upgrading the LT to handle the LS9 (new ECM and wiring, radiator, mounts, tranny (and ZR1 clutch/flywheel), rearend, brakes, etc. I'm sure I'm missing some things but you're well over the price diff already just with parts not to mention labor.

You would also need to change the brakes, transmission, suspension, axels, etc. it would just add up

And once you pull the LS3, you can sell the compete engine for a decent profit on ebay. Hell, I'll buy it for the right price |

Start with an LS3 motor. Forge the bottom end, have the heads ported, add bolt ons and cam, and add a TVS 2300 on top. You'll be able to run off and leave an LS9 equipped Camaro and have a whole lot more money left in your pocket for other upgrades. Swapping an LS9 into a Camaro that already has an LS3 under the hood is a big waste of money in my book. Unless, of course, it matters to you to have an LS9 under the hood and price/performance doesn't matter.

yeah get an ls3 or even ls7 forge it slap on a tvs or twinscrew (once available) and use the rest of the money on suspension brakes. be far cheaper, more power, better handling then just buying an Ls9. dont ls9's go for 25K+ right now.

After poking around my 2LT RS M6 it is possible but will be expensive. You will need:
6.2L LS3 Crate Engine ECM Unit Tremec TR6060 Stock SS Catback Exhaust SS Sways and Springs SS Brembos, rotors, brake lines. The 3.45 Gears for the Rear End. If you have an auto v6 you will need to buy SS rear axles and the 3.45 end as well. Not really worth it. Unless you plan on holding on to it for a long time and not buying another car. |
