NPP Exhaust Vacuum to Electric Conversion

Attempting to swap out the factory vacuum actuators on the NPP exhaust to a set of electric actuators found on eBay. Pics of the reverse polarity switch installed and the actuators.

You can, I found a write up somewhere in here on how to do a 3 way switch (stock, always open, always closed).

Post #9. This is assuming the car came with NPP from the factory.

Any update on this? I would be interested in something like this myself. I have the NPP but running it with open valves! Sounds awesome, but I would like to be able to close the valves in the neighborhood and on the highway. I have seen a few different vacuum related ways of controlling it, but I think an electric valve would be more of my speed.

Progress is slow, taking summer classes and have at job at the moment. But it'll definitely be finished in the near future!

First challenge to address is the distance to the point where the actuator attaches to the arm to move the butterfly valve is only one inch of travel while the electric actuators have 2 inch of travel. While I wanted 1 inch travel actuators in the first place, they were significantly more expensive than the 2 inch ones I picked up. To prevent the actuators from over extending they have built in limit switches as pictured so I can either figure out how to trigger the limit switches early or move the limit switches to allow the actuator only a 1 inch throw. Thoughts besides being over engineered?

Slightly disappointing but im going to go back to the vacuum actuators and simply use a vacuum solenoid valve for $15 off eBay, much less of a headache with similar results.

Motorized ball valve that will work with the reverse polarity switch

A simple 3 way switch and 3 wires works too. the very simple solution. I wired mine in after the long tube install to appease my neighbors in the AM.

Whats the easiest way to be able to control it with no vacuum lines ? Previous owner put it on and there are times I wish it was closed but I dont want it closed all the time either.

Vacuum lines is going to be the easiest I believe, there's a kit called "Mild to wild" that allows you to open and and close it on command but it's a little expensive in my opinion, my first attempt was to remove the original factory vacuum actuators and replace with with electric ones hut would require alot of fabrication. I think my new plan with the motorized ball valve is the best way to go. My car is a V6 so it has none of the NPP vaccum lines but I do have a catch can installed. So my plan is to run a reducing tee into one of the catch can lines to go through the motorized ball valve and then run one vacuum line to the rear and another tee to split to each muffler. The vacuum at idol is enough to close the valves so with the motorized ball valve and a reverse polarity switch, you can have full open or full close at any rpm.
