Well, now he can ask the girlfriend to give up something that she owns that he doesn't like!

My wife told me to buy a Camaro instead of the ford I was looking at. God my wife is awesome.

My advice for you youngsters just getting ready to settle down, start a family, etc. is..... DO NOT EVER give up your car, at least not unless it is absolutely unavoidable. You WILL regret it at some point and the majority of you will find it damn near impossible to talk your future wife into ever letting you get another one, especially if you have more than 2 kids and/or live up north. For those of you who have already made this mistake, I found that annoying the sh!t out of my wife on a daily basis seemed to work really well. Just keep boring them to death with stats on the new models, pull into every dealership when riding together just to drive by and look at the cars on the lot, etc. I even went so far as to train my kids to point out every single Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger on the road, they drove her absolutely nuts on the way to and from school. It took several years and I had to buy her a new minivan, but she finally caved.

Especially if your car is paid off...do not get rid of it. Every guy must have his car and man cave. Happy dad - nobody sad!

Or do something she doesn’t want to do.

I have to admit that I do like the beamers. Great combo of styling, ride, and handling. Only 180 hp but good mpg. A simple oil change will cost $120 but you have to budget for that. Great cars until something goes wrong

Congrats on your new car. I traded in my first new car - a 1977 silver Camaro - on a Chevy Malibu station wagon after we had our second baby. I regretted it on the drive home from the dealer. It took me over 30 years to replace it with my 2014 Camaro. I will never willingly not own a Camaro again. :-)

You guys crack me up. I can't remember the last time I asked my wife if I could buy a car (or mod it out). I don't believe I ever have. LOL! But, I keep her in a nice car and change it out every couple of years. You gotta keep things moving. That's the key.

Yeah, sometimes you just have to outwait them. It only took 27 years for me!

Haha, sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I'm in the group that doesn't ask permission to buy a car. And my wife always felt bad I traded mine in and encouraged me to buy another. Almost pulled the trigger in 2002. The real reasons it took me over 30 years to replace the Camaro I sold, was 1) I wasn't completely inspired by the 3rd and 4th gens, 2) I was raising 5 kids and a sports car wasn't really "practical" for hauling them around, and then 3) I was paying for 5 college educations (still paying). :-)

So, for those 30 years, I drove my cars for as long as they would run. Happy I'm onto a new phase and have my Camaro. If I had to do it over, I would have held onto my first, as many others have said.

I was semi-joking with my response as well. It is not a question of permission; it is a question of priorities - and marriage and family has to come ahead of cars in my book at least.
