RPI Stealth splash guards on 1LE - do they help stop the rock chips?

https://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item...rds---stealth/

Im wondering if anyone with a 1LE has tried these? Im not a fan of splash guards for the look, but if they protect that rear quarter from getting sand blasted, then I'd spend the $50. Anyone have them, maybe have a better total picture of what they look like on the car?? Or just an opinion on their functionality?

Thanks.

I used them from day one...no rock chips at all. Maybe lucky or they work but for the price I would buy them.

Fronts have a quick connect pin (think that's what it's called) and a clip. Clip looks funky like it won't hold but seems to do the trick. Hasn't come off or slid off yet.

Mine have not arrived yet. Probably Monday. But I made the mistake of driving the car last night for a few hours. Picked up probably 10 more small rock chips. Car has 210 miles on it. This is insane. So now I'm going to leave it parked for this whole beautiful weekend to wait for these splash guards to show up. Such crap.

Well believe it or not, they came in today with the mail. So I was able to slam them on and test.

Well I can tell you they do indeed block almost all if not all rock chips. I put almost 100 miles on the car today, and did not see one more. The front of the rear rockers are now protected it seems. And I made a point to hit some roads I know locally that I always cringe on with all the rock noise up in the fender wells. You can really tell they are working because after that long drive, the inside of them was all rock damaged. Not bad, and it would never destroy them.

On to the install. I followed the directions to a T. They have you pop out a plastic rivet on the lower front, and put that into the flap, then onto the car. The top is held on by this clip with two barbs on one side. when you put that clip behind the fender lip with the flap on the front side, it holds fine.

Now heres the problem. At speed, I could hear them(the flaps), making all kinds of vibrating noise. from like 50mph+ it would just get worse. So I took them off in a parking lot, and the noise immediately went away. So off to walmart I went, and I got some super heavy double sided tape. I put a piece a few inches long between the top clip, and where it attaches on the bottom. Just on the leading edge of the inner fender lip. I assume this is where the ZL1 addons flaps also get taped. That cleared up the noise right away. And now they perfectly contour to the inside of the fender lip.

The rear flaps were a joke. They install all sideways because of that gap between the fender lip, and the fender well. I left them off. I will probably try to return them for a partial refund seeing as how you can just buy the fronts alone. And thats really all I needed was the fronts. They look very stealth and seem to work. I spend about $58 to get them shipped here. Maybe I can get the rear ones returned. Anyway, on to the pics. Man I love this car.

I wish you had a pic of the issue with the rear flaps.

Interesting how we all see things differently. I like the way the rear shields mount and look better than the front ones. They mounted flush and even along the fender edge just using the two supplied screws. On the front ones I ended up ditching the clips and using 3M double sided tape like you did. That works well.
Each to their own I guess.

Are those the "premium" splash guards or the regular ones? Does anyone know what the difference is?

I bought a set for my 1LE SS. The fronts were easy to install, but I did add a strip of 3M tape to help secure otherwise I could hear them vibrating. I was not at all impressed with the mounting of the rears as they had to flex around the rear edge of the fender. They include a quarter inch spacer, but that was not near thick enough. I added my own spacers using white nylon tubing. I would not recommend these as they are generally small and don't seem to be protecting paint very well.

I'm curious. The finishes look different in the various pics. Did anyone purchase the premium over the standard set? Perhaps that's the fitment difference?
