Supercharged L99s, what are you doing for gears/ TC?

Curious what other supercharged L99s are doing as far as transmission mods go. Finding the stock 3.27s to be a bit weak and lacking in responsiveness.

Lots of posts saying 3.45 is ideal for SC L99, but also plenty of people saying that change on its own isn't worth the $.

Anyone have good/bad experiences based on what they are running (either different gears or a stall converter)?

Thanks!

I have enough trouble getting traction with the stock gears, I would not consider using lower ratio gears until I do some rear suspension mods to get the power down.

Ya, I checked out your build and agree. You are definitely putting out more power than me, and even I was having trouble getting grip with the stock suspension after adding the SC.

Upgraded my suspension and am not having the same trouble with traction anymore. Don't plan to add much more hp for the time being (daily driver, CA smog laws) so looking at transmission now.

Went from 3.27 to 3.91 to 3.45. 3.45s still goose the wheels, but much better than 3.91s. ADM recommended the 3.45s. Good response from my end...

I have a ton of suspension mods, no torque converter...

Did not try 3.73s.

Thanks Hammdo - so 3.91 was really too much? Your build is awesome, but probably putting way more power than mine. Did you have all the mods you have now when you ran 3.91?

Some suspension updates after that, cooling etc. power mods were already there. Tuned a bit but no additional power upgrades.

A6 with the 3.91s just spun. I don't think the Drag radial would have helped much at all. Ryan at GPI tried it and he said the same thing, 2nd gear was a waste. I am right at 600 RWHP now but even at 565, 3.91s were still too much.

Like I said, didn't try the 3.73s, but the 3.45s seem a good compromise for the A6 with FI... Andy at ADM and Ryan from GPI felt the 3.45s for an A6 FI setup is just right, and I trust their opinion...

I did also do the posi mod when we did the 3.45s

Hambo, you're welcome to drive my car in street and highway situations to get a comparative feel. You've been in my car with the 3.70's and know how it accelerates. I think you would really like the low end response around town, on the road course coming out of corners and passing someone on the highway. It may help your city mileage also. Let me know.

Thanks SS PANTHER! I thought your car drove great, and am really considering the 3.7s as a result. The kick was just great. Sounds like you haven't had any issues at all with those gears?

I have had them for 15 months and no problems. Even with the lower profile 285's, all the bolt ons and supercharger I get 22mph highway. Let's try and hook up within the next month.

OP, ask Ryne what he thinks. He knows your setup, he tuned it.
