Cooling Fans Do not Turn off, stay on
Im hoping someone out there can really be able to help me with this problem. A few months ago I bought a ’10 Camaro SS 6M from a used car lot. I have driven the car for the last several months but not often till recently and there has been a problem with the rad cooling fans it seems since I bought it. I got the car in late winter and there would be no heat on the highway from the fans running all the time. Later on I noticed that the fans come on as soon as the car starts up regardless of coolant temp. There isn’t any check engine light either. The fans never shut off and if you hit the A/C to come on, both the Fans kick into hi speed and stay on at hi speed even if you turn the A/C off again. Any ideas why the fans would do this?? I really don’t want the fans running non-stop in 30 - 40 degree weather again. Appreciate any help/feedback…

The car is or used to be modified and is currently tuned.

Id start by checking coolant level. You might just be low

To be honest. Take it to a mechanic. Somthing is not right.

Coolant check mandatory and if it's low go with a flush and refill with AC Delco brand. The relay and mechanic suggestions can only help, too. Good luck

Ok I took it to a tuner, he said the fan settings were customized and he changed them with a/c off. He set the fans to come on low speed at 204 with AC off, I wanted 196, and they turn off around 195. He also said there was a code i forget the number but it was for the AC low pressure switch beside the radiator, cleared that too it was only 1 fault so the engine light never came on. Now the fans stay off when u start the car with AC off. With the AC on the fans kick into hi speed at any temp and the temp stays around 180-190 in the city. If the AC is turned off the fans turn off. The car makes way more power in the 180s -190s temp level for sure, you can tell when its floored because i drove the car long enuf without it ever going past 200 cept a couple days it was 115 here. It only took the tuner less than 10 mins but he charged $100
The car has been tuned has headers etc.. Thanks for the input. Coolant was full, 3 dots on the stick when hot, added just a little more distilled water tho. Last edited by 10silverSS; 09-11-2016 at 11:05 PM. |

Was Nic D the tuner that did your detective work?
