Not trying to be an ass, but I do believe there are gt500's available for testing now.

you are right but the main arguments have been vs the new GT500 which is due out not long after the ZL1 comes out. The 2012 GT500 have been out since mid last year and even with the SVTPP, I highly doubt it can keep up with the ZL1 around a track.

The 2012 is functionally unchanged from the 2011 also, so really it hasn't changed since April of 2010 or so.

To me, it looks surprisingly suspicious that theres no gt500 in any test that came out. Motor trend probably pushed the envelope by just having the boss there.gm probably didn't want the gt500 in any of the tests and probably only allowed access to the zl1 on the condition that the gt500 not be there because if the zl1 just squeeked passed the 2012, people would consider it an automatic loss vs the 2013...or heaven forbid the 2012 gt500 put up better numbers!

That is not GM style at all, the mag rags brought whatever they wanted to compare to the ZL1, automobile mag compared the ZL 1 to the vette GS. The reason MT brought the LS mustang is because that's fords ultimate track car.

interesting take there.

But yes, it is strange...the 2012 GT500 has been out for awhile and the ZL1 has been touted to battle with it but yet, they found a limited production Boss Laguna Seca with a 136hp deficit to run against when a 2011-2012 GT500 are readily available and is and should be tested vs. the ZL1. Shoot, they are probably running these cars against each other now as I type. I hope they do.

Marketing is marketing, and I wouldn't put it past them to not allow the ZL1 to be tested vs. a GT500, since they are so close in spec. Chevy is not concerned with the ZL1 losing sales to the GS, they would be concerned about the ZL1 losing sales to the GT500.

The zl1 comparison to the gs is even more proof that maybe gm didnt want the gt500 sharing the spotlight so they threw another gm product in there.non of them used the gt500, or even 392 challenger

Sheesh guys, if you read The article it was Motortrend who brought the LS mustang. GM has no authority over Motortrend. GM has been marketing the ZL1 as a first and formost as a track car that can Aslo be driven on the street with a refined ride. What better comparison than the LS mustang who sole purpose is track performance. Illegal front spliter, no back seats, R-compound tires, 400lbs lighter etc... Im sure test with the GT500 are coming but with a new one around the corner what's the point for a track comparison. If the mag rags did that then the Ford fan would complain its the LS mustang that is suppose to be the track car of the bunch. Honestly with the current GT500 lack of ability to put the power down the ZL1 would probably beat it by even a wider margin on a road coarse. There is no conspiracy, it is what it is, don't like the comparison fine, obviously future comparisons are coming, this is not the last. Just sayin. The GT500 is not really marketed as a track car, and GM wanted to place emphasis on the ZL1 track performance. So the mag rags brought cars thats marketed as track cars, its as simple as that.

MT didn't go out and buy a production ZL1 to do this test, so to say that GM could not have placed conditions on the circumstances in which they'd loan MT a ZL1 is not true.

Well that's your conspiracy.you say that gm has no control over motor trend (which they dont, but they have control over the zl1 they let them barrow) but then you say they didnt use the gt500 because ford would cry (as if ford had control over motor trend) and then come up with a story of why they specifically didnt pick the gt500.at least I presented my "conspiracy" as just an idea and personal opinion.

Facepalm... No, I'm just sayin GM is marketing (the whole time) the ZL1 as a first and foremost a track car, so the LS mustang, Vette GS etc.. makes since. Ford don't have control over Motortrend I didn't say that or even imply it. I said if you read the article Motortrend brought the LS mustang BECAUSE Ford markets it as its ultimate track car! Im sure 2012 GT500 comparos are coming but why chose the GT500 when the LS mustang is according to Ford the mustang for the track. Honestly no matter which car the mag rags brought there would have been complaints. I hope you can atleast agree with that.

Edit: also you mischaracterized what I said, I said Ford Fans, not Ford would complain, please no strawman positions reread my post more carefully.

Exactly why I bought a Boss over a Shelby. And the reason I look forward to a Z28.

But you already have a pretty sweet car to tootle around in every day (doesn't get much better than a 335 for a DD). If the Boss is your second car (or third), then by all means, who cares about the fluff. But for people like me, where one car needs to fit numerous roles, the Boss would be too bare. Still an awesome car, just not the right fit for everyone
