Behind Front Grill Z Logo .......

There is a black square piece of plastic blocking any fresh (cold) that should go directly to the air filter ... What the heck ?

If you look at the front Z/28 emblem in the grill, it's right behind it.

Strange!

Pretty sure that is the rain/water guard. My SS had one, not sure if it is exactly the same as the Z28 but I removed it. Now the air flow has a direct shot to my Z28 CAI. I don't drive my car in the rain or even if it is in the forecast. I have a Dashlogic and it says my Intake temp is four degrees higher than ambient temp while driving, goes to 10+ degrees when sitting still for more than a minute. Not sure if the Intake temp is accurate and if removing that piece keeps the temps that low????

I feel almost 100% sure it's the rain run off for the plastic tray that I removed. This piece is big and blocks off air flow to the Filter. Removing it will be a hassle because you have to take apart the entire front area! Not sure if it's worth the hassle.

Yeah took it off when I had the bumper off to install the Z28 grill.

How is this plastic piece removed (allow more direct air to the filter) behind the Z/28 logo without taking apart the entire front end ?

Pretty sure you have to take the whole front end off. I had my whole front end off to put the Z28 grill in. I can send you a pic of what mine looks like.
