v6 rpm limited in Park
Just noticed that if in Park the v6 engine rpm can not be increased above about 4000 rpm. Can anyone explain the purpose of this limit or throttle control action?
Also, at about 3000 rpm the engine begins to torque to the right. Would it be advisable to add the cross member brace under the hood? Gary |

It’s to prevent catastrophic failure from drivers reving in park.

I’ll let someone else take part two, cause that’s a lot of typing... |

For what reasons would there be a limitation on rpms in park? Perhaps you meant neutral? Either way, there is only one logical answer. As far as the cross member goes....Google that and do some reading. It’s a lot more than a yes or no answer. |

Don't listen to these guys.
To remove it you have to put the car in N and rev it for 5 minutes WOT non stop. Try this then post results.

seriously....GM put many limits on cars to protect the cars as well as them from warranty repairs that in-turn also protects you.
i read a long time ago in hot rod or some car mag on engine building revving any car with no load is hard on a motor. fun or dumb fact-when top fuel drags runs what was a 1/4 mile in 5 seconds with 10k redline does it with less than 850 engine revolutions.... |
