I ran a M18x2.5 tap on mine and the receiver threads are screwed up now (they were unusable before running the tap). Anyone else have issues getting an aftermarket M18x2.5 hook to work?

This is pretty great info! I went with the ZL1 solution when I bought my car, but it's cool to know that something welded up is out there and available.

Just finished my install. It was very straightforward and about what others have experienced. It took patience to thread the hook into the crash bar, after wire wheeling the hook threads and leaving the crash bar female threads soaking in brake fluid for a day.

I would advise for anyone doing this to not put the fascia on until after threading the towhook completely first. I also found it well worth the small extra effort to pull the front tires and wheel wells out. Removing the fascia was really made easier by doing this.

My question - I would prefer to have the hook in place prior to heading out on the track, so the plastic retainer for the cover is going to have to be cut. Is this what you guys who have done this also do?

You can see the plastic cover and it's retainer in this shot. Definitely not hitting the track with it like this.

On the 5th Gen you use the OEM crash bar. I don't have the stock lower grill. I put the Street Scene grill in along time ago. So you don't have to cut the one rib out of your grill cause of the air ducks on each side of the grill. Every thing lined up great & I leave mine in all the time.

Did you make yours yet? If not I might have something you can use.
