Coupe or Convertible?

Thinking about another Cam5, this one a ZL1. I've never owned a convertible. But it opens up more cars to consider if I were open to a convertible.

Can you relate your experiences?

I never owned one so I don't have an input. All I can say is that since you are in SoCal, go for it.

I love my vert. I had a Fiat Spyder back in the late 70’s and always wanted another convertible. Now with the kids out of the house, I finally bought a car for me. My SS vert is the best of all worlds. The few times that the top has been up while driving, I felt claustrophobic. Of course I live in the Central California Coast where the weather is fab!

I’m a coupe fan, and will most likely never own a convertible...

But you have a coupe now, so why not try a convertible?

The week before I bought my coupe I rented a vert while I was in California. I love the feel of the open top and all the experience you get. Having said that I didn't like how small it felt with the top up or the amount of noise/general traffic sounds you could hear through the top. I only drive mine 6 months out of the year, and would likely only get the top down about 2 months or 4 times driving a year so I chose the coupe.

Why dont you rent a convert from enterprise to see what all the fuss is about.

I rented one a few years back, and its not for me.

As a pure toy a convertible is hard to beat. I barely put 4-5k a year on it. If it was my only car I’d probably go coupe. Of course I’d probably never own a Camaro as my only car. I’d have an AWD sport sedan from one of the big 3 Germans.

I bought a 2011 SS convertible when they came out and moved up to the ZL1 convertible when it came out.

Still have my 2013 ZL1 convertible and I don't think I'll ever let go of it.

Mainly a DD during the summer months, now with 41K miles on it, but I have taken it to the track a few times.

Michigan's MIS speedway, Michigan's M1 road course, Michigan's Gingerman's road course, and Michigan's Milan dragway.

Nothing serious, but they were all absolutely awesome events.

Still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

The thing that keeps me from a Convertible is the extra weight that gets added for the lack of physical structure. I am a lot of the performance and functionality side of things. My wife on the other hand likes her style and looks. Either way its mainly a personal preference thing in my opinion.

I just spent two years in Daytona. After two brutal summers and two hurricanes, I’m back in California. Any temp over 85 and I was not driving the vert. The humidity is ridiculous. Luckily, is was not my DD.

I have never owned one but have had a few as rentals in Florida and California.

I thought I would like them in those circumstances, but no. They're fun if sunstroke and dehydration are your thing. And with the top up, they are noisy and claustrophobic.

So, know before you go. Maybe rent a convertible anything and drive it for a few days.
