AC question...

I've had my 2014 2SS for almost 6 months now. Weather is definitely getting warmer so I am using the AC more and more. It works perfect but I have a question that is bugging me...

I've read the manual, and I've done searches but I can't seem to get an answer: What exactly is the "Auto" mode that shows sometimes when the AC is turned on?

I say sometimes because there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when it shows the "Auto" mode and thus the "Recirculate" without having first pressed the recirculate mode.
  • How does one control the "Auto" Mode?
  • I've noticed that "Auto" Mode gets selected first thing in the morning when I first start the car. Eventually, does it automatically change back to non-recirculate mode white in "Auto" Mode?
Perhaps one of you who have owned your cars longer than I have might have some insight and it would be highly appreciated.

Hmmm... I have not noticed this, but as the manual states: "To improve fuel efficiency and to cool the vehicle faster, recirculation may be automatically selected in warm weather. The recirculation light will not come on".

Sounds like there is a temperature sensor that automatically puts the AC in "recirculate" mode temporarily to cool the cabin more quickly. I'll have to pay closer attention and check it out.

It dose the above as Palmer stated above ^^ PLUS whatever temperature you set the A/C to maintain, when you start the car, it automatically pits the fan on HIGH, then slows it down to the proper speed to maintain that temperature.

Hmmm...
I'll believe that the system will go in and out of Recirc on it's own, but I've never seen this, since it doesn't display the mode change when the system does this. I'm not so sure about the system changing the fan speed to maintain a set temperature. I have always thought that these are pretty much manual systems, rather than maintaining a "set" temperature. In my experience, the A/C will pretty much run all the time, and the inside temp is regulated by adding the amount of heat dialed in by the rotating knob.
I've had my SS since March of 2014, but to tell the truth, haven't really played around with the A/C too much. I operate it as I've described above, noticing that if I don't tweak the "Temp" knob up a little on a longer drive, it will freeze me out.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it :-)

You can set the A/C to a certain temp?

You set the temp by adding heat. I always have mine set to max cold. I do not like auto temp systems as I want control of my fan speeds.

Several late model HVAC systems have actual temperature settings one can set in an "auto" manner. What I was referring to is the original quote stating one could set the A/C temp to maintain. Obviously it is clear we can change the temperature using the temperature dial. But how is one to know what temp? I do not believe our 5th gen Camaros have that capability.

Interesting. I'll keep this in mind and figure this out. Thanks for the info all!

Where did they hide the internal cabin temperature sensor?
