and i dont think Gm cares about topping the base vette. i dont think many are cross shoppping and the base vette is just that. You want power you step up to a Z.

So a bunch of outlets are reporting this is not the LF3. It's a version called the LF4.

Which makes sense since the engine in the ATS-V.R is called the LF4.R.

I was just looking at some Caddys and I was a bit shocked at the prices, I'm a bit out of touch on these. My first thought was I can get a Beemer or MB for that much and in the long run it'll hold value better. Am I right in this assumption? I checked on Autotrader and frankly there aren't a whole lot of used Caddys in the area as we are heavily saturated with imports in Vancouver.
Get what you like/want. Resale won't be terrible on the Cadillac, just maybe not as good as a BMW or Lexus. Resale is only a small part of the picture, you enjoying the vehicle should be the biggest factor.

Frankly, all higher end luxury cars are a waste. They're status symbols. Get a car that does what you want. Sedans with the top trim are damn nice by yesterday's standards. If I were looking at a nice sedan as it sounds like you want for the wife, I'd be all over something like a V6 Accord, Acura, or mid level BMW. That's just my tastes/wallet. But if I had $50k+ kicking around, it would be for a pure sports car. Sure as hell wouldn't buy a boat with leather seats.

Actually they do. just looking at a local BMW dealer, they are advertising between 2400-and 2900 off on certain 3 series sedans.

Here is a 2015 they are advertising 3200 off the window sticker

http://www.billjacobsbmw.com/new/BMW...faba841165.htm

The 14s they have left they are knocking quite a bit off.

Here is one where they are advertising 4600 off

http://www.billjacobsbmw.com/new/BMW...f7c2c79205.htm

Now it might not be BMW doing it in ads, but the dealers certainly are offering discounts

That's the point. The manufacturer NEEDS to substantiate the sticker, but "dealer may sell for less". In this arena, the emphasis is generally on leasing, but there are those looking for a "long deal" too. Finance rates as low as 0% AND/OR cash incentives do exist, but that sort of promo is best handled at the dealer level.

BTW, there's a large difference between a Manufacturer's Cash Back, and a Dealer Discount, in deed as well as perception.

GM has had a lengthy history of packing the MSRP with built-in monies for planned incentives. That sort of situation, when coming from the manufacturer, degrades the validity of the MSRP and contributes to lower ALG percentages, which makes the vehicle look like a riskier deal. NOT what a world-class product should be trying to propagate, imvho.

You run risks when selling Caddies the same way you sell Chevs.

According to GM marketing (for what it's worth) the ATS-V with a manual hits 138mph in 15 seconds. By comparison Car & Driver clocked the M3 manual at 130mph in 15.6 seconds. I'll await independent reviews to see if this acceleration advantage holds true in the real world.

I do know that in my previous career working with European cars they were stupid expensive to maintain so it may be better to take a hit on future trade in and spend less on up keep. Anyone here have first hand experience to share in this?
Dollar for dollar, feature for feature the Cadillac is less. There are however some features offered by the Germans that Cadillac doesn't offer. Not to mention huge negotiating potential with Cadillac right now as inventory is piling up.

This motor was built to take massive boost, titanium rods?? this thing is no joke.
My guess is with the 8 speed auto, since that likely will net that fastest time, thus best for marketing.

I'm sure that under 4.0 seconds is with the 8 speed. GM wouldn't keep a better time in their pockets....as Baylor says...that's marketing material.

Doesn't shock me that this engine may be the LF4 instead of the LF3 due to the race version being called "LF4.R" . But that said, I would have no concerns whatsoever in bumping the LF3 to 450+HP and TQ...heck its not far from that anyways, and after market tunes are getting a lot more than that. I just figured they'd tweak the LF3 a bit and move on. The LF3 is a tough engine. This LF4 must be unbreakable then.

That would put it in the low 12s range and in the hands of a good driver and good DA we could see some 11s. Much faster and it would be banging on the doors of the Corvette.

No Way this car will run 11s stock. We don't know the weight , but I'm hearing 3600-3700 lbs.

Take a look at the fast lists on this site. Some SSs have run in the 12.5 to 12.7 bone stock with good DA. No reason this car couldn't run 11.9 in the same conditions. Of course if the 3.9s 0 to 60 time is for real.

It's going to weigh more than a C7 Vette (probaly 200lbs) with pretty much the same HP and Less Torque. Its not going to run 11's stock, not happening.

I am basing this off the C7. GM claims 3.8s 0 to 60. Fastest bone stock C7 is 11.37s in the quarter. How does 5 hp and a couple of hundred pounds cost you more than .5 seconds 61 to about 120 mph??? Good DA and good driver should get this car in the 11s.
