Door Window Scratches

Now that we have had some Camaros on the road for several months now, has anybody noticed their door windows getting scratched from operating the windows?

When I say scratched, I don't mean deep scratches like some members have reported. I'm referring to the very fine haze-like wear on the outside of the glass. It shows up as wide, vertical patterns. It seems it's from the windows sliding across the weatherstripping.

My 96 Monte Carlo did this soon after we bought it new. I have been operating the windows very sparingly on the Camaro to avoid this possibility. I also spray water directly on the weatherstripping when washing the car. I'm thinking the dust that collects on the weatherstripping might the cause.

I had the same problem, they had to take off the door panels and clean the inside because some grease or something was getting on the window.

The only thing that would make that is dirt, grit, or grime that is stuck in the window seals along the edge of the door. It would act as sand paper everytime you open/close the window. I would just replace those seals. I would think you would get more debris in there by cleaning your window by simply opening and closing it to clear it off. Maybe try using a squeegee so dirt won't get lodged in there.

I had some scratches in my window that were a little deeper than yours, they wouldnt wash off, they were etched into the glass. I got a new window and weatherstripping replaced under warranty... No problems now.

This happens to us out here in Lubbock. [For us] it is caused by dirt settling on the edge of the window and rubber sill that scratches as the window rolls up and down. I used Finesse It II on the window and it looks just like new.

If you get the windows filthy and then roll them down, the dirt/grime goes down into the weather strip. This can lead to scratches.

So, be sure to avoid rolling a filthy window down in any car. (Some people think this is a clever way to clean them off, but it is not!)

Thats a new one on me, I've owned cars for 40 years and I've never had dirt scratch a window from rolling it down....

Yeah, that's the Monte. The Camaro hasn't developed scratches, yet!

I thought there was a softer product one could add to the door and would prevent scratching the tint. I don't remember what forum it was on, most likely a camaro or s10 forum?

i guess I misunderstood your first post, I thought you had acratches on your camaros windows and was asking if anyone one else had them.. sorry...

My HHR has something similar looking on it's driver side window, but using a good glass cleaner got them off, they were not scratches but some sore of buildup that developed, you could feel it on the window, I thought it was scratched but it came off...

Yeah, I tried a few products too, to no avail. I may have also tried a paint polishing compound, although nothing more course.

I've heard any type of scratches in tempered glass won't come out easily because it's too hard unlike laminated windshield glass.
