ZL1 Shopping Frustrations
Hey guys, new to the forum, 4x Camaro owner, longtime lurker...
I bought a 2018 Red Garnet 1LT 6 months ago and have regretted not upgrading to something more fun. The super low end of year price plus my 100 mile commute to work convinced me it was the sensible choice. I’ve decided to fix this mistake and buy the car I should’ve bought in the first place, 2018 Red Garnet ZL1 Convertible, needless to say it wasn’t just sitting at my local dealer. Walking into a dealer at 27 asking for a ZL1 definitely gets more than a few dismissive looks around here. I asked to talk to the internet salesperson who reluctantly agreed to search for what I wanted but found a few other colors but no red. He talked me into considering a 2019, even though the refreshed taillights are what made me buy a 2018 in the first place. He then suggested we could just order one, should have been my red flag number 2 I knew from Becky the ordering option was long gone. I gave up and left. After sleeping on it and reading more than a few posts I decided to switch to a fully loaded all black 2019 ZL1 VERT . Found one local and after seeing it in person absolutely fell in love, ugly taillights and all... I can go for a used 2018 but I don’t want to risk those being 4K hard miles with no regard for break in only to save a few $. I don’t qualify for a conquest, GM, or military so I don’t expect a significant drop from MSRP besides what I can negotiate. I’m planning on giving half down to leave my payment roughly the same price it is currently. Now I don’t know whether to wait until the 2020 orders open up or just go ahead and pull the trigger on the local 2019 one. Nothing is expected/rumored so far to significantly change as far as I can tell right now between the two MY. It’ll be months before I get the 2020. Is it worth it to wait? What do you guys think? I ordered mine in 2017 and got in on the first run of 2018's.
There were not many around at the time and none in my desired configuration. I decided if I was going to spend this much cash on a car it was going to be EXACTLY what I wanted. I am keeping this baby forever. Looks like garnet red is still available in 2020...… My ramblings...….

I definitely would go Garnet if I ordered a 2020. But the murdered out black Batmobile look wouldn’t make me miss the red if it meant I could have it next week. I am definitely excited to get my dream car and blessed to be able to comfortably afford it, but the 2019 and 2020 would be spec’d out the same beside the color. Difference being delivery time and the value in MY, although resale isn’t a factor given I plan on keeping this car for a while.

Black is a heat magnet. Especially in Santa Barbara with all the sun and it's a bitch to keep clean. I like the way black looks and owned a black car once. Never again.

2020 orders start June 13 and delivery around 2 months after in my experience. Your results may vary.

I'd grab the '19 for instant gratification
It's wild to me how many people dislike the '19 tail lights. That is literally what got me back into a Camaro! I missed the separation (four tail lights) of my '10 SS. I hated the chrome trim around them, but that was an easy fix. I just took off the bezels, scuffed them up and painted them black. IMO, that was the best looking rear end. The '19 is much closer to that style than the late 5th gens and early 6th gens. To each their own, for sure, but I'm a big fan of the '19 tail lights.

If you're wanting a Vert, I'd say get it now. I know you're in Cali and probably have great weather most of the time but it's still nice to enjoy a vert in the summer.
