Iron X before or after clay bar?

So I'm about to go on a 3k mile road trip coast to coast and plan on doing an Iron X / clay bar detail when I get there. Do you use Iron X before or after you clay bar?

I am no expert (experts will be along shortly ) but logic tells me to clay after Iron X. My thought process is Iron X will remove most iron particles leaving less contaminates to remove using the clay bar.

I would Iron X after clay bar. Iron X will get the remaining iron oxide left on the paint after clay barring.

Both of the above are true!

If your paint is heavily contaminated, then using Iron X first will remove a lot of the material that clay would have anyways, so that it clays easier and you save the clay.

If your paint is lightly contaminated, claying first will expose any iron that has already penetrated the paint. At this point, using Iron-X second will remove this iron-fall out.

I just clayed about a month ago, but I know my paint is going to get beat up on a 3000 mile cross country drive. So before AND after?

No, if you clayed a month ago I would just do before. Maybe the deck lid and the rear bumper before and after!

Cool, really looking forward to trying it out! Any other advice I'm all ears.

Hahaha, I am about to do the Iron X treatment now that I'm all moved and you weren't kidding - that stuff smells like a bucket full of A-holes!!!!

So I am thinking 2 bucket Wash > Rinse > Dry > Iron X > Wash > Rinse > Clay Bar > Wash > Rinse > Dry > Polish > Sealant?

Am I going overboard with the washing?

No real need to wash after the clay bar.

You can wash after the iron X, but a good thorough rinse is usually enough.

I always have tons of residue after clay barring so I don't need to wash that off before I start polishing?

You don't need to, no. Some people do, some people don't.

Try wiping off the residue as you go. Finish a section, wipe, move on.
