Crank Battery Voltage?
Hey everyone,
quick question, my battery reads 12.3v in the morning after an overnight shutoff. When I crank the car in the morning the voltage at the battery terminals drops to around 9.8 volts momentarily until the alternator kicks in. my question is this normal behavior? I have verified this with a multimeter and also an OBD II scanner app with graphing capabilities. I have gotten the charging system tested as good, sanded, and retorqued all the battery terminals including the starter connections. |

A quick Google search showed that a battery typically drops to 9 - 10 volts after starting the engine. Makes sense since it's pulling a few hundred amps. 14V is typical while driving.
