Long tube install question
I’m installing LTs on my 15 1LE and was wondering if I need an immediate tune on the car and if it’s dangerous to not have one.

I would stay out of full throttle. I went a week before a tune. Wouldn’t drive it very long without one. Plus you’ll optimize and get more power. And you’ll grow an engine light immediately.

Do your headers have cats? If they do, and your front and rear O2 sensors are in the right locations, you don't need a tune, but you won't get any significant power gains without one. If they don't have cats or the O2 sensors aren't in the right places, it'll throw a code and you need a tune. It probably won't be dangerous as long as your air and fuel are consistent (e.g. don't make a big change in elevation, or switch to a different gas). But a tune is a good idea either way.

If you get an SCT X4 you can put your own tune on. Go thru DynoSteve on here to buy it and he will provide free tunes as you mod your car. Good luck.

Drove mine for a whole year without tuning it. Check engine light came up a few months after the install but that was just due to a bad o2 sensor (I had the hi flow cats connection though so thats why I wasn’t getting the light). Never had a problem because of that.

Best route would be to buy a SCTX4 from Dynosteve and get a remote tune to get rid of CEL that you can do from home.

I kept it under 4.5k rpms until I got my tune, but after that I gave her hell. You should be fine for a little while. I wouldn't go years and years without a tune, but even if you run it for a couple months you'll be fine.

Yeah I’m definitely gonna get it tuned within the next month or so, just wanted to make sure it’s safe to run to work and back as it’s my daily.

Drove my SS A6 for like 6 months with the check engine light on should not be a issue.
