Check Engine Light
This morning I was getting ready to start my car with the remote starter and warm up a little bit because it is 35 degrees here in the Houston area. I know that’s not cold to some of you. It wouldn’t start, so I stuck the key in the ignition and it started but seemed to struggle a little at first. When I got in it to go home the check engine light is on. It runs great but the light is on. I did check the gas cap. How would I find out why the light is on?

I wouldn't depend on that. My local Vatozone told me they don't do free check engine light scans anymore.

Take the engine cover off and make sure a wire didn't come off one of the coil packs. Happened to me and that's all it was. Dealership said "No way would that be the problem, bring it in." I popped off the engine cover and there was the wire just hanging off. Plugged it back into the coil pack for that cylinder and fixed.

Can't speak for all, but know our local AutoZone will check them for free.

You can buy a scanner at Walmart for about $20.

When I got in my car to come home from work this morning, the check engine light was out. It starts with the remote starter again. I don’t understand it but, I’m glad that it went out. So I never got to take it somewhere to find out why it was on in the first place. Oh well. Thanks for the information, I didn’t know scanners were so cheap. That’s why I like this forum, you can always get an answer good or not so good lol

When the battery gets older/weaker (or a heavier load from a cold engine/starter), I've had it trip the CEL light numerous times.
Most (if not all) codes are still stored in memory. At least the code readers that I've used can still retrieve them (until the battery is disconnected).

The remote start will only work 3 times and then you have to start the car with the key. Now the remote will work 3 more times, etc, etc, etc...
