How is the Camaro Sound System?
I realize that this question is purely subjective, but how does the sound system sound?
I'm one of those guys who is never satisfied with stock sound. In the past I have rushed my new car to a car stereo place and had them replace the speakers & radio, and then add more speakers, lots of amps and subs. I would rather NOT do that with the Camaro, and definately won't replace the head unit, but... are you happy with the stock sound? Is it loud enough? How is the range / frequency response? Tell me tell me tell me. |

Stock system or the Boston Acoustics upgrade? Been alot of positive reviews on the BA system. Same head unit either way.

If you haven't seen the new "head unit" yet, it isn't a quick swap out like other systems have been. GM dropped the ball here. They molded the radio into the A/C controls so conversions are going to be very interesting.
I was "satisfied" with the overall sound quality of the BA system. It isn't going to rattle any windows, but the frequency spectrum is nicely covered. I thought the system was going to have a subwoofer like that in the Colbalt SS or Pontiac G5 GT, but if it's there, it isn't as noticable. The added features of the system are impressive. I like the ability of adding an external audio source via USB port. It is unfortunately inside the arm rest making it difficult to change if needed while driving. It could use the addition of a strong subwoofer, but that is personal preferance. The quality of the speakers is a definate plus. Sounds much better than the old Bose (Clarion) systems. It appears to have 6.5" speakers in the rear dash and doors. I listen to a wide range of music and it works for me. I have other cars that have aftermarket sound systems in them that I can hop in if I need a fix. I hope this helps.

The BS system really sounds great! I'm very happy w/ the head unit AND the speakers!!
Of course, it'll need the subs to really fill it out. Just my opinion. |

I definitely think so! The BA system is miles ahead of the stock system.

Does the BA system have an external amp(aside the head unit)? Or is it just a matter of speakers upgraded? Let us know.

Yes it has an external amp. There are tweeter in the pillar, speaker in middle on dash, 6'' speakers in the door, and 6x9s in the back. I believe that is the speaker setup. I have not heard except for in videos, but I think it sounds good in the videos. It should be pretty easy to install an additional sub as the battery is in the trunk...

so, i guess the easiest way to add an amp/sub combo in the back is to use line level inputs off the speakers to drive the rca inputs on the amp? Granted i've never heard the system, but i can almost certainly say it won't be loud enough for my tastes. 2 12's is my 2nd upgrade after exhaust.

FYI..you won't get as 'clean' of a signal from the speaker inputs vs direct RCA connections from the head unit. But being that it is only a sub amp, S/N ratio
might be acceptable. Also, only certain models of the Camaro have the battery in the back? Only one seen here(LT1) doesn't even have a spare. Maybe an option? |
