OIL TEMPS abnormal ranges

Just drove from Arizona to Las Vegas to Cali and back to Arizona over the weekend.

The outside air temps 105+

When driving from Las Vegas to Cali (Bakersfield) my Oil Temp rose from normal 200's to 240-250 as I would cruise along at 75MPH for hundreds of miles. And same thing back from Cali to Arizona

It happened a couple of times, and to get OIL TEMPs back into normal range, I turned off the A/C and within a couple of minutes, the OIL TEMP would come back to normal at 200!

Water temps appeared normal, no spikes notice!

Any clues, or just the extreme hot conditions 105+ is the culprit?

I'm running Royal Purple and just had ALL fluids changed prior to the road trip!

I read on here that ZL1 engines have blown, because of oil related issues ?

Does it do it in normal driving or just long highway trips?

Only happened on the long highway trip through the desert.

With normal limits while at SuperChevy , even on the dragstrip!

I will keep an eye on mine and let you know if I see anything, we have been hitting a hundred or over recently. Nice article in GM high tech performance.

Any chance that will the various mods you have that you somehow altered the route the air flows over the oil cooler?

Aren't the transmission and engine oil coolers combined? Maybe it has something to do with that.

240 with synthetic oil is no problem...well within tolerence. My car can go over 300 oil temp at VIR after a 25 min session. Keep the a/c on and don't worry!

Mine stays at just a little above the 210 line, not much fluctuation even in high temps with a/c on or off.

Long trip through the desert is bound to do that.

Email from Andy @ Livernois Motorsports said within normal limits.

I know I read a post here on Camaro5 where a ZL1 owner has had to replace his engine 2-3 times because of some OIL valve? Trying to find that post

Agree on the temp being fine. When I was tracking my Z06, I saw 300+ all the time. Never made me comfortable but was never an issue and one reason why they used synthetics.
