Well, if you are not a “car guy” braking and handling are two separate things.

I think it has a "breaking" problem.

Yes, they could. The technology could be used to disable all driver distractions...cell-phones especially....

The technology itself is pretty good. Tesla’s application of it sucks. Tesla is missing some of the key elements of Lidar that Waymo and GM use, as well as having to rely on inferior mapping detail. Waymo and GM are considered far and away the best and most advanced in this area. Tesla was in such a rush to be first they outran some of the key technology that was still in development that GM and Waymo have since taken advantage of.

I still think the Cadillac “super cruise” scares some people. The tv ads showing the driver drinking his soda don’t help. Yep, let’s have Burger King eating prioritized over actually paying attention behind the wheel.

Again, what is the point? To reward laziness? Encourage inattentive behavior? I’m the other side. Deactivate texting while the car is in motion, but then that sucks too for the passenger to maybe say we are running late. It’s a tough topic.

Very tough. Because on the one hand there are those drivers who are quite careless, and in that area of the "careless", there would be a lot of material to cut to describe them, and on the other hand there are those who want to do things themselves and feel that too much automation forbids them to dominate the vehicle at your will ... I leave on the side of "things work when they are necessary"

What I meant to say is the technology is used for an ass-backwards purpose. It is good, and could be used to eliminate driver distractions and improve safety, like keeping hands on the steering wheel, not off.

Making it so you don't have to pay attention, but "Hey, we told you to be ready in a heartbeat to take over driving functions", is a recipe for disaster. The whole philosophy of catering to the I-phone, social media, texting, anything other than paying attention to actual driving is a perverse shit-canning of all previous attempts to improve safe driving, and driver responsibility. Selfish, introverted, smug-prick behavior has plenty of other places to be indulged. It should not be allowed behind the wheel of a car.

This technology could be used to eliminate driver distractions and inattentiveness, not increase them as much as possible.

If you looked at Drivers around you going home from work, I would guess that 85% of people don't have two hands on the wheel!
