Tailgated for over 50 kms (30 miles)!!! OnStar to the rescue

The Drama that is My Life:

I left work today from SAIT around 3pm in Warlock, my black 2010 Camaro SS (which, with the detail work I spent 2 hours on last night, looks pretty freaking awesome!) Enjoying the sunshine, I drove down the Trans-Canada Highway to Deerfoot Trail and headed home (south). About 55 kilometers (34 miles) one-way... the commute is mostly highway and highly enjoyable. Usually.

Turning onto Deerfoot Trail I notice a white Charger pulling in behind me. No big deal, except that this Charger is about a foot off my rear bumper. Whatever. I accelerate onto Deerfoot Trail and head home. Traffic is medium, so I crank the tunes and... notice the Charger is still on my rear bumper. So close, actually, that I can't see the Charger's headlights. I was about to tap my brakes to get this idiot off my butt when I took a good look at the car.

Yep. The Calgary police. Nice. Looking in the rear-view mirror I can see the officer quite clearly, and she's showing no expression. ???? Just driving along, several feet from my rear bumper. ???? Oooookay. I get in the middle lane, set cruise control for the speed limit (thank you GM, for cruise control!) and continue on my way home.

With the Calgary police... tailgating behind me. For 50 kilometers (30 miles). The entire time, I only saw her headlights once or twice. I couldn't believe how close she was tailgating!!!

Finally, after much frustration , I took the exit off the highway to my little town... and she followed right along. Which made me snap, in a way. ARGH! So I punched my OnStar button. What follows is an approximation of the conversation I had.

OnStar: Hello, Onstar, how may I help you?
Me: Yes, hi... sorry for bugging you but there's a white car that's been tailgating me for the last half hour right behind me and won't leave me alone.
OnStar: Tailgating?
Me: Yes. They've been following me so close that I can see their hood, but not their headlights.
OnStar: Oh, that`s not good! How long have they been doing this?
Me: Half an hour or so, all the way home, actually.
OnStar: Okay, would you like me to involve the authorities, sir?
Me: Please.
OnStar: One moment please...

<Hold music... la la la la la...>

OnStar: Hello... <pause> Jason?
Me: Yes?
OnStar: Yes, I've got the Calgary Police on the line with me... go ahead, <name>.

<introduction to the CP, hi how are you, i'm fine how are you?, not bad except for this tailgater, where are you?, exiting highway 2 to Okotoks, yadda yadda yadda>

CP: Can you give me a description of the other car, sir?
Me: Yes, she's driving a white Charger. Don't know the year. Those Chryslers all look the same to me.
CP: <laugh> and what are you driving?
Me: A black 2010 Camaro.
CP: <pause> Nice! <another pause> Without risking your safety, sir, can you give me a description of the other driver?
Me: As far as I can see she's a good looking brunette wearing sunglasses.
CP: Thank you. <pause> Oh, we have an officer in your area! One moment, please.

<Hold music... great... I'm driving down the highway into town with elevator music in my car... sigh>
<Hmmm... the officer behind me jerks her head towards the middle of her car, then slows down. She looks like she's talking. To what, I don't know. Interesting. I finally connect the dots and think "He's talking to THAT officer!" LOL! I look again, she's really talking quite animatedly now. The officer then hammers the accelerator, pulls into the passing lane without signaling and blows by me like I'm standing still.>

<click>
CP: Hello, Jason?
Me: Yes?
CP: Is the woman in question still following you?
Me: Why, no she's not. (I cannot keep the smile out of my voice)
CP: <laugh> Okay, if you have any further problems please feel free to contact me directly at <phone number>. Please drive safe.
Me: Will do! Thank you!

<Calgary Police disconnect, OnStar employee actually laughs and asks if there's anything else? Nope. Thank you for using OnStar and tries to sell me minutes for my car. No thank you. Okay then, bye.>

Pulling into town, I see the CP Charger headed the other way, so I wave. She waved back and smiled! ????

What just happened? LOL! Nooooooo idea.

Well done! At least she had 30 minutes the other way back to Calgary to think of an explanation for her CO.

That is great! Hate it when they just tailgate you for no reason.
