3.91 vs 4.11 on Cammed Manual SS

Hello all. Looking for some advice on gear ratio. I just installed a mild cam, Comp Cams LSR: 231/239 duration @ .050", .617/.624 lift, 113deg.

After driving around for about a week, I am finding that its a bit of a bear around town. Below 1600rpm, the engine has nothing. In parking lots, I'm reving up, slipping clutch, dodging people like an a$$hole..! And on the other side, 6th gear is way too tall. At 70mph a slight hill starts to choke it and I'll need to shift into 5th.

So, I am left wondering if the 4.11 gears would be a better move over 3.91 gears? I'd be grateful to hear from those with cam and gears, what ratio you chose, and how you like it? Much appreciated!

I am Cammed and am Running 4.11's. On the highway I would almost prefer to have 3.91's as In 6th at 120KM/H Im around 2400 RPM.

acammer convinced me to go 4.10s over 3.91s and I am glad that I took his advice. It feels like these are the gears the car should have come from the factory. No more lugging around town at low speeds.

If im not mistaking, the coyote guys that put our tr6060 in their cars put 4.10s in the rear to keep the gearing similar to stock. I also believe we have taller tires than the coyotes, for those reasons I have 4.10s in my room waiting to go in, just need a fresh diff and axles to go in with the gear.

2400rpm doesnt seem to bad, might be a bit fast, but that is about where the cam seems to start working very well!

Definitely do not want that lugging around town and in parking lots, etc. Excited, glad I asked the question!

Now I guess, any recommendations? I was going to go GM for the 1LE 3.91, but I do not think GM makes a 4.10 kit?? Thanks again!

With 3.91 at 60mph I'm doing around 2000rpm give or take.

Motive 4.10s are what you want. Acammer and zlathim both Motive 4.10s. Get yourself the diff cover as well, they can tell you all the fixins they have. I am 3.91

My only regret with 3.91 is not going with 4.10. My rpm in 6th gear at 70 mph is around 2k. My big cam doesn’t cruise well at low rpm.

One word of warning on the Motive gears. Mine are very loud. I know it has a lot to do with my poly cradle bushings and diff bushings, as well as the LPW diff cover, but man these gears can be loud.

I drained the oil over the weekend and there wasn't an excessive amount of metal on the magnets, so I don't think the gears are unhappy, just noisy.

If I decide that I can't stand the noise of these particular gears, I might try out a set of 4.11s from Yukon.

does the brand or gear size play any part into how noisy they are?

I honestly don't know, but the shop that installed my gears said Motives are usually pretty good gears. I'm guessing that some sets are just noisier than others, maybe even from the same manufacturer.
