Chevy Sonic

So I am going to be looking for a car to drive for a daily/weekly commuter and looking at the Sonic. I am looking at this mainly because of the price, but wanted to get some feedback from anyone here that has driven one/owns one. My other option will be a more used car. But in the price range of $14,000 tops...if I can score a new car, then I'll probably go that route. Thanks in advance.

Matt

I searched for my first car for a good 5-6 months. I was looking at used ones from Saturn Ions to Pontiac Solstices. My parents and I figured out that people want way too much for used cars that they've beaten up. After we learned this, we started looking for Sonics. It's close to impossible to get a hatchback 1.4T with a M6. Totally worth it. My car stickered for $18,XXX with the options being hatchback, LT, 1.4T, M6, Mylink, and the Black which costs extra. I STRONGLY suggest the 1.4T. It gets better gas mileage, has more torque, is more powerful, and there seems to be less problems with it. The downsides of getting the 1.4 is that you have to go up to an LT and it's hard to find.

I'm averaging 28.6 MPG with almost exclusively city miles. I also drive it kinda hard. It's a fun LITTLE car. Going from a Camaro, you might not like the size.

I suggest the Hatchback, because I think it looks better, but that's an opinion. It's also more expensive than the sedan.

Word. Don't need anything fancy. Just something with good MPG, with a factory warranty, reliable. Not to mention brand new

Thanks for the feedback. I have done plenty of research on them, just haven't been able to drive one yet. I agree on the engine choice. I was quoted and have seen MANY online available at my local dealers for around $15,000. I'm sure I can drop that price though
We get club discounts, and I would get military, USAA, GM loyalty (if thats still available). So I can pull off a good price on one no doubt.

Do you plan on getting a sedan or hatch?

Sorry but for 18K I would look at the cruze Eco for daily driving. I have the 1.4L turbo Cruze Eco M6 and average 40 MPG in the city (no a/c) and about 43 on the highway with cruise control set to 74 and the air conditioning on. Plus it only costs 1K more than the sonic you described.

Very nice price. I don't have to worry about trash talkers obviously lol. Most know what I drive anyway though.

I was going to get a LT RS Cruze, but after driving them, I liked the Sonic better. It felt sportier, had better handling, and weighed less.
I also liked how most people have never seen a Sonic hatchback. I like the Cruze, but I see a lot of them.

Sedan. Hatch I don't like the looks very much.
@Men- I was looking at those at first. It will all depend on how much I can get knocked off of on the price they are at. I think the dealer that sponsors our club has like 20 cruzes and around 15 sonics on their lot lol. No problem choosing im sure.

People try and race me quite often. I think they see the turbo badge it has and they think that I think my car is fast. With a tune, you get like 34+ extra HP.

Haven't driven a sonic so I can't comment on that but the cruze could be a little quicker but again it was never designed for that. It was designed for a cheap efficient car and it has left me surprised since day one. Last year when I went to Miami in the cruze I drove around 1100 miles and only cost about 80 dollars.
