Firewall Insulation

I had to replace the left piece of firewall insulation after a mouse chewed a hole through it. Of course I ended up ruining the new piece trying to put it in....ugh. I also need to replace the center piece behind the engine. Has anyone replaced that one? That one looks tough to do, if not impossible without the engine being out.

I was going to suggest drop the engine. If you know someone with a lift it is a pretty straight forward process. If not, I don't know what to tell you as like you said it appears darn near impossible.

The insulation likely tucks under the trans tunnell a bit too. I don't think it's something you can just swap out without dropping the power train because it's a formed piece.

I have replaced mine twice. It can be done without dropping the motor. Just carefully worked it behind the obstructions. It wont be perfect, but you wont be able to tell the difference. Be sure to use rubber gloves because that stuff is very itchy.

Yeah you were right. I was able to do mine without pulling the motor. It definitely can be done, just takes a little patience. I found the left side actually harder to do.

How necessary is it? I removed the center piece to install my LSA blower and haven’t really thought about replacing it or even if it would fit if I wanted to.

IDK, but I had a hard enough time getting my hands back there for my grounds, oil pressure sensor, etc. I tore the heck of out mine during my engine swap and now it looks like shredded ass. The center piece is gone and the driver's side is shredded pretty bad.

I would imagine it helps to cut down on noise and heat, but to what extent I don't know.

Valkyrie, you get that monster running yet? I would love to do an LSA swap on mine.

I recently replaced my insulation pieces when I had my intake manifold out. That made the center piece much easier. The driver side is easy. However the passenger side is difficult due to the brake lines that run up against the firewall.

Do you remember around what they cost per section?

Yup, last weekend. Working on getting the tune dialed in. Haven’t really gotten to open it up yet, my tuner has me on a leash until we have the mixes just right.

I've run mine without the left side or rear for years with no ill effects. I think it's as much for sound deadening as it is insulating
