Maintenance? And dealer reseting tune?
I am about to take a long trip down Southern California and am planning on getting an oil change beforehand. I recently got my car tuned and installed a Non-CARB legal intake. Will the Dealership make it a pain in the butt to work with. (I'm slightly hesitant to do it at other places because one of my fuel injectors misfired and needed replacement after doing it at a shop).
Note: I do not have a garage nor the tools to disassemble anything as I am a college student and would like to not spend extra money to take things on and off. Besides an oil/filter change. is there anything else I should be doing for maintenance before my long trip? my car is about 58,000 miles now. Thank you in advance. |

Do what the Owner's manual says.

5W30 Synthetic Oil, Filter, DONE!
They can't say anything about the intake. You make sure they don't "update" the ECU, you tell them DO NOT... And $19.97 at Walmart gets you a basic socket set... Hell, spend $50 and you get a nice one. I don't have a garage either, I work right on the street most of the time. Also, if you don't need an oil change, then don't get one. You can get it done anywhere, since you obviously are not willing to grab a basic tool set and do the work yourself. I drove a car to FL, and got the oil changed there... Check your owners manual for any basic scheduled maintenance. |

I think ramps would do. You can make them out of wood to save on money. That's how I change the oil on mine. However, my driveway is sloped.
So, on the ramps gets me to almost level. An oil drain container is not that expensive either. The only thing you really need is a place to do it. |

If you haven’t ever done air filters and real axle fluid change, those are overdue.

I must be missing something, sine when does the dealer do an update to the ECU?
Every time I ever went to a dealer, they never asked or performed a ECU updater.... as far as I know.

If the OP has an aftermarket tune, they could possibly mess it up by retuning it back to stock for some reason. Highly unlikely, but you never know. |

oil-burning furnace. So, I leave it outside in the containers the new oil came in. Though, me thinks he died, he didn't pick it up this February. As far as the other tools needed, also cheap.. I got my ramps for $30, and other steel set for $20. $50 on basic stuff, you can change your own oil... |

When I was your age I walked 100 miles to school every day, uphill in both directions...
Seriously though, I did save a lot of money doing all the basic maintenance myself when I was in college and for decades since then...thousands of dollars. You don't need a garage, particularly if you live in Southern California! As for what to service, I would go by the owner's manual. That means, unless you have been racing, you really don't need to change the differential fluid or the transmission fluid right now. |

When I had dealer work done a couple years ago I made sure to tell them I was running an aftermarket tune. I also instructed them to NOT perform any updates to the car on any modules, aside from the BCM, as that was possibly related to my issue.
That said, I still returned the tune to stock beforehand because I assumed they would ignore every damn thing I said and I didn't want to take any chances. Then I re-flashed the tune in their parking lot when I picked the car up.

Having a good relationship with your tech or shop is a great thing, especially when they really know the platform.
